fun fact, My last name is Pye, We're direct family to the makers of Pye radio and TV, sadly, we're on the wrong side of the family, Dads dad married a german and they disowned him. Though i am on the wrong side of the family, i'm pretty proud of what we were able to acomplish.

Jim, fantastic to see your Pye at last. This one resembles the case of what's known over here as the T.19D. All the valves etc are different of course. I might have a set of knobs for the T19 if you want them, 1/4" shaft. Regards - Andrew

Great radio. It seems to me, as I listened you trying to tune it, that it needs a little alignment of the IF's, don't you agree?

Pye certainly does have a big history over here, I worked for the two-way radio division Pye Telecom up to and beyond when it was taken over by Philips in the mid 80's. There were many divisions doing television broadcast transmitters (Pye TVT), lab instruments (Pye Ltd), and of course the domestic radio and TV manufacturing arm :)

Alan Cordwell I got the PYE when I was in highschool in the early 70's. After WW2, the extensive war industry setup in Ajax, Ontario was left with nothing to do. Many factories retooled for consumer goods. Canada tried attracting industry to the area and PYE setup a radio factory there. That's where my radio was built. Ajax is only a couple km from my house.

Can you help me find out the band switch and coils board installed in my radio P39?

Hi, I have a CGE H53 counter top radio. I need to replace the cord so will have to remove the chassis. Do the front knobs just pop off. It is quite old and the knobs seem stuck. Any ideas how to remove without ruining the wood finish. Also, what type of replacement cord would you recommend. Thanks from Vancouver

Your commentary as you work on radios is great. Have you considered using Google Hangouts to stream some of your video and have instant feedback with the chat option? Tom

My first videos were done on Google Hangouts. I didn't know anything about posting to KZbin or comments or anything about anything really. I just jumped into Google Hangouts. Soon I discovered that the videos were being uploaded to KZbin so I got Interested in KZbin. Eventually I abandoned Google Hangouts because of low video quality. Recently, I have tried KZbin Live in private and I was thinking about giving that a go. I think only Google Hangouts allows two way chat. I guess it has to be planned and scheduled for it to work.

I had problems with resolution a few years ago but this month I have tried it again and it much improved. I have only tried one test and it seems to work fine (Hangouts). If you want to do some one-on-one testing I would glad to help as it would help me too. With your great speaking voice and great narrative style I think the stream would go over well. The other advantage of Hangouts is that automatically saves to your video to KZbin channel. You just have to be careful as it marks it public so if you want to do some editing before releasing you have to remember to mark it private. Just a thought. Tom

hamrad88 OK. I'm headed to the shop shortly so I'm going to investigate Google Hangouts again and maybe shoot the next video over it. I'm used the the live and unedited format so it shouldn't be much different for me. Maybe I'll be going by 9:00 am Toronto time.

hamrad88 I tried Google Hangouts on the air but my computer crashes each time I initiate the broadcast. My computer is not old but it cannot run my browser and camera at the same time, which is a big let down for me. Since Hangouts needs the browser running, it's too much for my computer. Wish I could figure this out but I have not been able to sort out the problems with my computer. Too bad for now.

hamrad88 OK I got the computer to not crash by lower the camera resolution but I cannot see my own shot on screen. I'm letting it post to youtube then I'll check it.
