Good evening, George. That weather wouldn't bother me a jot. I love a thunderstorm. I'm sure it was rough on all of you that were selling, though. I liked that Dutch Boy doll, and the Buster Brown shoe store piece. I have a child's Buster Brown tea set. Those boxes...al of them...were fantastic. Old boxes have always interested me. The fernware was something I could see myself living with easily. I _really_ liked that! There looked like a lot of carnival canes where the tramp art was. Those are something that I like. Aaarg! I want that barrister bookcase, with the leaded glass fronts. I spotted a tumbler, in that irradiated glass lot, that I would've liked to have...if it hadn't been monkied with. It was a Heisey piece. Loved the Empire Revival library table. There were a lot of things there that would've really tempted me. Thanks for the tour!
@TheAntiqueNomad2 ай бұрын
You are another intrepid collector then! I was shocked to sell thousands of dollars during a downpour but hey, I'd have shopped too. I'd own all or any of those boxes, and the barrister bookcase to boot! I saw the Heisey tumbler too, it was sad that they ruined it with irradiation. I hope Willie Joe brought the Dutch Boy doll, I understand we'll have the Buster Brown piece in the booth with us too!
@CONSTELLATION_PEGASUS2 ай бұрын
@@TheAntiqueNomad I might not go grocery shopping during a downpour, but I'd definitely shop an antiques show during one 😂 Those boxes and the barrister bookcase were fantastic! I thought the price, on the bookcase, was more than fair for it, too. I have a pitcher and four tumblers in that Heisey _Colonial_ pattern, and I'd like to add two more tumblers, but that one had been, to me, turned into waste. My favourite Heisey is their clear glass, (I have a bad habit of comparing any clear glass to Heisey, too), and my favourite is their _Colonial_ pattern. For me, it's all about the glass, with Heisey, and I don't even want etched or molded patterns on it, much less have it irradiated like that piece. I don't think I'd have been able to resist either the Dutch Boy doll or the Buster Brown piece.

Think back to Francis Perkins- the first woman Secretary of Labor in 1933. I think the purple glass is pretty . But , as you said George , not everyone is a fan. But that’s what makes the antique and vintage world interesting , there’s something for everyone. Just waiting to be discovered . I should tell you about a stone known as ammolite. It started being introduced in the 1960’s. So there are vintage pieces . It’s only found along the St. Mary river in Southern Alberta , which makes it rare . The more blue in the stone , the higher the value . Wish I could put a link here for you . But if you Google this , you may want to investigate it . You might find pieces of this in estates , or a place like Vegas .

Neat! i'll definitely google it. I like the deep purple color in glass made that way, and I like the lavender color of glass that has slowly turned in the sun...but the irradiation to me is "cheating", plus I see them ruin some good old pieces of glass that way

@azmike1 Springfield was just like it's been the last 5 years since I started going there, no issues with anyone at all. I go to the restaurants, grocery stores, thrift stores, lodging establishments and the antique show there, and the only time I ever was bothered by anyone was an American woman who tried panhandling me (which I encounter nowadays in EVERY American town I go to with a population over 10,000).

So it's off topic but what's it really like there. Meaning the Haitian immigrant problem eating cats Etc. Have you seen anything or you don't want to touch this topic with a 10-foot Pole. Totally curious for an unbiased opinion.
@TheAntiqueNomad2 ай бұрын
Well, since you asked--I've been here 6 times in 3 years, have driven extensively through Springfield and know people who live here. Not once have any of them said that rumor has a basis in fact! The people I've met all seem perfectly nice, and both locals and this particular group of immigrants (who came here legally to flee the gangs who took over their country) seem to be working hard, paying taxes and living their lives. The new arrivals are not fully enculturated, and still are learning both English and what the social mores are in a new land. The town has grown very fast and the need for more infrastructure hasn't caught up yet to the influx, which has created hardships for both those who were here and the new arrivals. Social friction while new arrivals learn what is expected of them in a new culture is typical in any boom town; the same thing happened when I was a kid and was one of 20000 new arrivals in Bremerton, Washington when the Navy built a new submarine base there. It caused more traffic, crowded schools, and took about 3 years for them to hire enough police and build enough schools for us. Some of the locals had initial resentment about us being transfered there from California and Texas (until they realized what an economic boom it was for them)...but no one falsely accused us of eating their pets! The VP candidate for the GOP now admits that he made up this story (about his own consitutents) to get people's attention, spreading a tale that was originally started by a known neo-Nazi who does not like the fact that immigrants have moved here. The GOP Governor and GOP mayor of Springfield have both disavowed his comments, and nothing I've seen here indicates that they are the ones lying.
