I had no idea that shows on radio were this good back then but now that I have heard them I realize that shows like this are a lot better than some of the shows on TV today

Edgar Bergen was not a very good ventriloquist but was the worst father. In his day, American audiences were happy with mediocrity. Most of his performances were on radio where he didn't need to bother if his lips moved or not. In person, that was obvious.
