This was one of the classic finds on the Roadshow - all that silverware of the best quality brought in a shopping bag collected by the deceased father, who gave no indication to his family about his marvellous collection. Items appraised throughout the programme. Brilliant!

Always wanted to see the full version of the silver appraisal. Love the dreds. I have read that this collection was under a bed in shoe boxes for a number of years as the wife had no use for it and was upset hubby was spending money on it.

I remember seeing this episode at the time it was first screened and recognised the guy with the dreadlocks straight away so I had a vague sense of what was coming. I know enough to appreciate the workmanship in the items a lot more now than I did then, so it was a great joy to come across this episode again. Thanks so much for uploading.

This silver collection is the programme I remember above all the others. The expert did not need to try and generate artificial excitement or be unnecessarily loud. His quiet professional amazement was enough.

I love listening to John Bly talk about furniture. Definitely knows his stuff.

Am I correct in my calculations? T he gentleman with his father’s wonderful collection showed about 96,000 pounds worth of objects? I’m from USA and curious as to worth in US currency and also probably ignorant as how to correctly cite British currency values. Thanks for any feedback.

Hi Dona, the Inflation calculator tells us that 96.000 GBP in 1994 are now worth 186.240 GBP = 237.000 USD

Did the father run a pawn shop? Suspect to have all those rare items ?

96,000 pounds worth of silver? Are you having a laugh? They sold the collection for 350,000 pounds and that was almost 30 years ago

The SilverWare guy if he sold it all, he could have gotten a really nice house for himself.

Apparently his family was struggling financially so decided to sell many of the items, keeping 'favourites' in memory of his Dad

Or his wife and kids wouldn't have had to struggle and worry all those years....I'll bet Mom went without a lot.
