How did he express this with sheet music? The ethereal floating mid section with the intertwining strings feels so spontaneous, so protean, I just can't conceive how someone could even begin to communicate something like that within the finite medium of musical notation. Or is it partly dessner working directly with the musicians and creating through improvisation?
