And since he was a bit bored in rugby XV, he went to the french 7 rugby team, which never won anything before, and eventually won Gold medal in Paris. What's so special about this player, is a bit like if an american football player could play top level QB, Tight end, wide receiver, running back, deffensive back and kicker. It's the first time in rugby history. There were incredible players in rugby history before indeed, but not able to play almost every position in rugby at top level. I dislike using words like "best" or "greatest" because it is obviously impossible to compare him to a guy like Eben Etzebeth or Ox Nche. But of all the rugby players I have seen, he arguably has the largest skillset I've ever seen, with the possible exception of Cheslin Kolbe. Fantastic player.

@@randomlyfactual1943100% agree, I find the constant goat discussions in all sports these days pretty boring, but like you said, his skillset is just immense and when you see stuff like his tackle on Hansen, it's hard to argue. @randomlyfactual194315 күн бұрын
@@calumgray So we had an old player turned coach here in SA, by the name of Danie "Doc" Craven. If you want to thank anybody for the Springboks being good at rugby, HE is the guy you should thank. More than any other Springbok player or coach ever - not even Rassie Erasmus - Doc Craven is the most significant rugby figure ever to hail from our shores. Now, Doc Craven had a famous saying: "The first name on your team sheet should be the tighthead prop. The second name on your team sheet should be your reserve tighthead prop." Antoine is an absolute gem and captains our France team on the biggest stages. Having “keys of the truck” as we say in french is a HUGE honour and responsibility. He s everything you wish for as a rugby player and a class act ❤ being scrum half in rugby is kinda like being a quarterback in us football : you have to take fast decisions while defenders are flying around to hurt you. But he s not only passing the ball, he goes at defenders, breaking the D line. Unlike a QB he does have to tackle guys as well and trust me it s hard to get pass him 😂
@jonallbin827117 күн бұрын
I could not agree more with the comment above. It is such a cool thing that he is taking in the NFL experience and speaking in a foreign language. But I wish Harbaugh/Mack/Dicker could have seen some of his highlights before they met him because he is THE MAN on the pitch! The (stupid) age old conversation of "which sport is tougher?" is different when Rugby guys see how much money they could make in the NFL and conversely, the NFL guys (like that LB in the beginning of the video) see that EVERYONE touches the ball and how much fun the sport of Rugby is. Perhaps one day, NFL players play rugby and vice versa through club transfers...

I even went to multiple World Cup games in France last year. Their athletes are incredibly versatile and have crazy endurance. They often play for 50-80 mins straight without breaks (except half) and everyone on the field has to be able to catch, kick, tackle, juke, truck, etc. There’s no specialization doing just one skill, they do it all.

@@2011hwalker For one, he could prob kick just as well (if not better) as most kickers in the league. My biggest takeaway from American football is the tendency for fans to be wowed by something that is basic in rugby, and which happens every week haha.

Rugby guys hold the ball in a more loose grip so that it can be offloaded easier with a flick of the wrist. American Football guys carry it more tucked in to avoid fumbles?

I still don't understand how rugby players survive a game without pads or helmets. That's a tough sport! I can only imagine how he would feel with all the protections...
@Rigs__Rigs25 күн бұрын
Proper tackling you don’t get hurt. Football they don’t tackle properly with correct form cause they think they’re safe with the pads.
@jameswyatt444321 күн бұрын
You have to wrap you arms in the tackle, it’s a lot safer because of that.

@damienthimonier490019 күн бұрын
And the fact you can't be tackle if you don't have the ball ... In US Football, the fact you can tackle any times makes it unsafe, since your body isn't always prepared for tackle (and the fact you have 300lbs guy who are trained ONLY to be freight train in human form) In Rugby, since you must have the ball to be tackle, you know someone coming for you, and this awareness "prepare" your body to be hurt, and make it safer. Kind of same thing with boxing, the hardest punches are the ones you don't see coming.

Nah NFL players are highly specialized for their specific positions. They aren't multi faceted like a rugby player but they are extremely skilled at what they do
@tonio392019 күн бұрын
I think you don't know what you're talking about. The average career length in the NFL is 3.5 years because it's extremely demanding and very hard to stay at the top. Dupont has one of the highest salaries in rugby worldwide (the second highest, I believe), and his salary is equivalent to the minimum wage of an NFL player with 0 years of experience.
@Wingspan_52 күн бұрын
58 yards is 53 meters. 60 meters is 65 yards, which is 1 yard short of all the all time NFL field goal record. No diva NFL kicker could make a single conversion kick in rugby union especially considering they are often kicking at very extreme angles.
