Antonín Dvořák was one of the most influential composers of the late 19th century, and by far the best Czech composer.

How the oboist can ad lib the tempo in the opening of the beautiful 4th movement is beyond me. In fact the entire 4th movement's tempi wobles.

I have been trying to track down a CD version of this recording and for the life of me I can’t find one. It was done by SWR Orchestra but no-thing I can find reveals a release on any physical media. Unfortunate, as I consider this my favorite recording of this piece, the Andante is fast and lively but the Allegros and Moderato are well-balanced. Others including Dorati have played this too slow. I find myself preferring to listen to the piano version on CD over any other orchestral recording for this reason.

I have a piano recording. Far better, brings out the nuances.

@@williamdougherty7563 There are plenty of excellent piano recordings… Anything done by Kvapil is good, even some Naxos box set I got had a very nuanced recording but I can’t recall the pianist.
