It's a treat to remember sober Anton, still full of venom and vigor and not full of Grey Goose and a heart attack.

I really like the message I received from Anton sharing about just giving a little of yourself or whatever you have to give to make someone's day. Thank you for the inspiration Anton and for the interview Jay! ♡

The word Mr. Anton Alfred Newcombe was searching for to describe getting involved in a community of people interested in helping others is ethos. Great interview. Keep it up, I'm on your team now. Peace.

This is a great conversational interview. A great time capsule of music history and a very specific POV towards music, other musicians, sound, and acts of charity. His own discipline is aspirational.

It appears that lots of comments love this interview - I do too -- but keep in mind this was all filmed before the 23 tour and his drunken heart attack -- he was sober here reflecting on the 22 tour -- which was great because he was SOBER -- he was a nice guy. I met him and we chatted for 15 minutes. - but DRUNK ANTON is a terror.

I saw BJM in Dallas back in April. I'd love to ask Anton about certain songs, how he writes lyrics in particular. His lyricism is amazing. Also how he puts a set together. What to include and what not. They still do Anemone and P I S H. Such a fascinating dude.

Graphite Guitar Systems, the luthiers for bands like the red hot chili peppers all the down the line to The Grateful Dead, want to present Anton Newcombe a Guitar, Or Bass, Or any stringed instrument really, custom with the Original "dancing ladied" Graphite neck. We love your sound Anton and would be honored. Anywhere in the world too could be in germany!

Technically what Anton is talking about using the analogy of a "skeleton" to build upon is called a LEAD SHEET. It is usually only the treble clef vocal melody, lyrics and/or instrumental melody but may include bass clef lines too and basic supporting chords. From that the ARRANGEMENT is developed by applying instrument (and vocal) doubling in layers, taking into account the blend of sound, not overly doubling bass, mid range or high range sound except when for effect. This strategy works for arranging pop music with one lead vocal but also applies to larger group formats by either doubling the lead vocal or vocal harmonization in the arrangement. Lead sheets are used a lot in jazz "fake books" where arrangements (small combo) are improvised over just the verse melody, bridge melody and chorus melody with or without basic support chord suggestions.
