Antonio Luiz Catelan Ferreira thinks it is particularly important for the Church to adopt new practices in term of accomplishing its mission. This pertains to deepening our respect for the Eucharist as well as to how faith can be preserved in people’s lives. In Brazil, the declining number of priests, the vast geographical distances and the ever-increasing isolation of people living in big cities pose considerable problems to the Church. Antonio Luiz Catelan Ferreira is the vicar of the José da Lagoa parish in Rio de Janeiró, he holds a doctorate in dogmatic theology from the Pontifical Gregorian University, and he is a professor of systematic theology at the Pontifical Catholic University of Rio de Janeiro. He is the member of both the International Theological Commission and the Professional Body for Religious Education of the Episcopal Conference of Brazil.
