HOLY CRAP 1:27 WAS SUCH AN AWESOME MOMENT. He could've just replaced the "Faces that I used to know" line or ignored its meaning and sang it normally but instead he added a whole new layer of meaning to it? Like, the singer is trying so hard to be encouraging and reassuring but at this point he slips up and you can see a part of him is hurt and mad at Nina for having grown distant from him and the neighbourhood, maybe even feels it was selfish of hee to quit college, and he's trying to push that anger down for her sake. It changes the entire emotion behind the song and it's so wonderfully acted. God bless

And maybe its me But it all seems like lifetimes ago Si what do you say to the faces That you used to know? “Hi, I’m home”? Mira, Nina, hey We’re not worried about you We are all hoping that you will succeed You are the one who made it out The one who always made the grade While all of us here have just stayed home When you were a child you stayed wide awake Climbed to the highest place on every fire escape Restless to climb you got every scholarship Saved every dollar the first to go to college You can tell them why you’re coming back home With your eyes on the horizon You and me and the GWB Thinking: gee, Nina, there is so much you could be Straighten your spine, smile for the neighbors Everything’s fine, everything’s cool The standard reply:lots of tests, lots of papers Smile, wave goodbye, and pray to the sky Oh, God Who cares what your parents say?
