Alonso joined the club as a full back and has never been world class. When Chelsea were playing a back 4 with cahill and luiz, they got battered by liverpool and arsenal. Moses was never supposed to be a starter. All credit goes to conte. Identifying cahill and luiz are not good enough, alonso isn't that good and turning moses into a wing back. Switching to a back 3 was a masterclass not many managers would have produced. Any other manager would have had a disastrous season.

Everyone says the Costa sale was a mistake, but at the time I really don't think it was. Costa had flirted with the China money during the January transfer window, right when we were in the middle of our title challenge, and had hence fallen out with Conte. It's no coincidence his form dropped off in that second half of the season once his head had been turned (only 6 league goals since the turn of the calendar year compared to 14 from Aug-Dec). If it'd been Sir Alex who'd sold a player under similar circumstances, everyone would have sung his praises (see van Nistelrooy, Beckham, Keane etc.). Successful managers always have to be in control of the dressing room, and that was his way of saying who's in charge. The only mistake was that unlike at United under SAF, Conte wasn't backed by the board, and instead got the garbage signings you mentioned in return. Most notably how he was given Morata as a replacement rather than his top choice of Lukaku, who I think would have thrived under Conte (as he is at Inter, and had already done in the PL with Everton/WBA).

Amazing tactician. First coach to win the league with 3 at the back, I know it might seem like an extra but it really is essential to understand how difficult and how much of a trailblazing feat this is. It opened the door for 60-70% of clubs to play with 3 at the back that season (16/17) as well. In my honest opinion, that matches Pep's 17/18 work considering this was his first season. Would genuinely love him at Man Utd. Much more similar to Fergie than most would think (we must remove the notion that he is a defensive coach as his teams score a ton load of goals while remaining defensively stable)

His achievement with Inter is far greater. They won the title after 10 years of being lost. With Chelsea, the same squad had won with Mourinho just 2 years before. So although he did great with Chelsea, it was not a bad team. They had won the title in 2015 with Jose. If Conte wins the title with Spurs, it will be the greatest achievement ever.

2 things: 1) I LOVE the “I’m exhausted after every match bc I feel like I played w my players.” You can tell he lives EVERY moment on the touch line. 2) I’ll always LOVE Conte, but he’s a great COACH imo. Not a MANAGER. Frank has to remind him about the Fans and Backroom Staff. It’s why Lamps is already an amazing MANAGER who’s working on becoming a great COACH. It’s why things sadly often fall apart at whatever club Conte is at (look at Inter right now). He’s not the best man manager while Frank is superb.
