At 0:52, Puccini says in one of his many letters that he wished he was a symphonist as the work would be far easier, but that he was destined to write operatic scores.

Excellent Mr. Pappano. The tenor, not a beautiful voice but sang pretty good. The baritone is in great need of italian coaching. Damn, that was bad. Bravo Mr. Pappano

I wonder what the maestro would have thought of Adrianna Maliponte's Man on? Her ability to color her voice allowed her to demonstrate every facet of the her character. For me she stands along with Callas in this ability.

Nothing to do with the music, but I always think it rather odd that Edmundo, the first charactor to sing in this opera, disappears after the first act, never to re-appear.
