On April 26th, 2003, TWO light heavyweight contenders got the opportunity to fight for TWO vacant world titles, thanks to Roy Jones Jr. moving up to heavyweight.
Antonio “Magic Man” Tarver took on Montell “Ice” Griffin for the WBC and IBF straps at the Foxwoods Resort in Connecticut, USA.
Tarver was the new kid on the block looking for his first world title, while Griffin had been beating people up professionally for years. The winner of this fight would go on to face the likes of RJJ, Glen Johnson and Bernard Hopkins.
Which one would it be?!

He fight in the Olympics with floyd mayweather..but he turned pray late..around the age of 28 or so..thats why he didn't start getting known until he fought roy because he was only pro for about 4 years prior

Antonio Tarver lost in the Olympic finals to Vasily Jirov, bothe became world champions Vasily won the gold Tarver won the silver. I'm sure you remember that amazing fight where James Tony took the Cruiserweight title from Vasily Jirov in 2003 i believe. Damn I'm getting old that stuff seems like yesterday

All you Roy stans & Tarver haters, answer me this: Why did Roy offer Griffin a possible “rubber match” against him if he beat Tarver, but wasn’t really willing to fight Tarver until he was compelled to do so due to Tarver calling him out? I’d LOVE to get a straight answer!

I never really cared for Tarver as a fighter because his career was based on fighting big name guys who were out of their prime.
