I've got a new colony of trap-jaw ants, and today we're building them an epic new terrarium home. We also learn about their unique jaws, one of the fastest moving predatory appendages in the animal kingdom, and get to see them in action when we feed the ants. Hope you enjoy this week's episode and our new colony! Ant love forever! This video was shot in 4K Ultra HD resolution

Another name for jawbreakers (the sweet/candy) is gobstopper. Their "gobs" (British slang for a mouth) will stop anything! It's great to have a new colony of them, they're a fascinating species. They're really good at settling in - but then I'd definitely take something as big and welcoming as their new home over a pot and some paper! Was that a rhino beetle larva? If so, it's possible that the "good mites" might be in that soil. That can only be good news for these beauties :)

i want to keep these ants myself. I prepared a terrarium a year ago, with a little plant in it, and when i was still in the process of thinking wich animal i want to keep in there, the little plant had grown so fast so big, that i cant close the terrarium anymore, so i thought i couldnt keep anything in there, but then i realized that i can keep trap jaw ants, because they cant climb smooth walls! Btw i like to call the giant plant igdrasil, the world tree. I think it sounds cool.
