Hey @AntsCanada, I wanted to inform that when the larvae reach their final instar (in their silk production stage), you could offer the colony some leaves so you could observe and film them in action. A transfer to a test tube set up can also be done additionally, so that the colony can be in a tight, secured space and makes filming them easier... @terraristit37522 жыл бұрын
I personally think it's more of an instinct based reaction than anything else. For such incredibly social animals, it seems benefitical, from an evolutionary standpoint, to to be inherently alturistic. I mean, if ants weren't willing to die for each other, their societies would fall apart. To me, it *seems* that they are "hard-wired," on a genetic level, to "care" bout each other, rather than emotionally caring about each other. Now, I must say that I have not studied the specifics behind ant brains and the chemicals they produce, so I got no proof as to wether or not ant brains produce the chemicals that are nessecary for things like love and emotional bonding, but based on what I've seen, I personally think that their alturistic and protective behavior is a byproduct of them evolving an eusocial lifestyle.

to be honest, trying to imagine what it would be like if human evolution mirrored ants is so crazy. obviously the strength would be insane but also like being able to preserve dna forever after one encounter and then using it forever with no negative genetic effects, why didn’t we evolve that? like one to two cousins in and our genes start going south quickly, it’s amazing how different our species are! or like super majors!! like imagine the MASSIVELY different scale humans would be if we were like that, humans riding other humans like buses to get around, being able to follow an invisible sense of direction never getting lost when you need to find your way home, having a natural born knowledge of how to best build a structure and what the optimal layout of any space is and how to efficiently complete team projects with common goals… there’s just so many things in evolution that’s so incredible and mysterious, I really love learning about ants through your videos! thank you very much for sharing your passion with the world in such an engaging way!

I saw one of those ants when I was swimming in a pool! I made sure it didn’t fall into the water. They’re really pretty :0 It had wings but idk if it was an alate.
@Cat_willstealyourfish2 жыл бұрын
it was probably a male ant or a alate you encountered
@ineverrage41762 жыл бұрын
Any ants with wings are alates, the category of alates just specifies that they are reproductives- they can be male or female
