@@AntsCanadaWhy not let that beautiful Scolipendra go back to the wild if you have zero interest in keeping it or showing it off to the AntLoveArmy? Doesn't seem like your style to cram an awesome & active predator like that into a tiny kritter-keeper for the heck of it? Unless you're planning to use it as a feeder lol In that case just freeze it, because keeping it in that tiny keeper just feed it off when it dies of *_cough cough_ "natural causes" would seem disingenuous to myself as well as many others I'm sure💯 🙏🏼🤘🏼

well tbh making a good docu about ants is near impossible, one reason is the funding which is hard to get specially if your pitch is "a documentary informing people about ant" then theres the amount of time people need to get quality content from monitoring ants after that they have to edit that. like most broadcasting company or whatever will just tell you "why not make it a documentary about insects, cause ants is way too specific to use all our resources in it" so yeah the best ants docu we will ever get is from ant keepers.

I have some news to share for today, In philippines the nuptial flight summer is about to end, but I'm not able to antkeep yet because my parents won't let me, so I'm just here explaining that I ran out of time to finally start antkeeping. Or is it? I still keep seeing fire ant alates (solepnosis invicta) in my bathroom just looking for a perfect place to grow their colony, but I have no choice but to leave them alone for them to start their colony in peace, I hope I become an antkeeper soon when I grow up. By the way you're just the best ant channel ever, my favorite antkeeping channel as some of its old tutorial videos helped me gain more knowledge about ants, and how to antkeep of course. Thank you for making all these ant videos, they make me feel like I'm in a place with different antlovers, kinda like my best friend Luther. But all I wanna say is that I can't go antkeeping until I grow up, but AntsCanada, you're the best antkeeping channel I've ever seen.

Termites tend to care a lot about heat and humidity and they do a lot to regulate it themselfes. In those tiny containers they have hardly any chance to make choices or use deep soil to adjust their own situation. It might be worth a thought, not to use the ant-approach for them, but to start off with a terrarium with different soils in different spots, with a humidity gradient (misting on one side), with the possibility to utilize "morning sun" (heat lamp in one spot only) and with a variety of wood, bark and leave sources inside, as well as with spots of additional shadow produces by plants. (maybe with isopods and springtails). If you introduce multiple pairs into such a setup, you can check out, which conditions and ressources the thermites chose in an indoor-setup and it would give them all opportunities.

i think i speak for all of us when i say we dont mind you taking a break from "high production" videos. heck, most of us probably would be content with a couple of paragraphs recapping the week in YT posts. something that i think a lot of creators forget, most of us probably aren't upset when a video doesn't happen exactly when we expect it. often its more confusion and possibly concern. if you cant get a video done on time one week then i have no doubt just a quick update post "yeh, all is good. just need another day or two to finish this video" would be well accepted. there is a difference between being slack and slowing down or taking a step back. none of us think you're slack (heck, you had a damn house built around your hobby...). and just like we understood the less frequent and less edited videos during its construction so to will we understand if you need to skip over a weeks upload for one reason or another. the main thing is about documenting and sharing the ants (and distant relatives) activities and if taking a break from uploading heavily edited videos for a week or two helps then by all means. it also probably helps us appreciate the ants more imo. its like seeing a famous actor/actress off set without the makup. it feels "real" to me personally and helps ground the colonies as actual things and not some surreal construct that only exists when we are watching it. it also helps highlight the effort that goes into the "makup". from the camare angles to the lighting to the practical FX you do sometimes. it really does feel like meeting a celebrity in person vs seeing them on screen. life is a rollercoaster and has ups and downs. and considering that your whole YT carear revolves around "working with animals" i think some extra leniency for unpredictability is to be expected and accepted. i have gone on quite a tangent here but i think the point is burried in there somewhere; dont stress about upload scheduals. if a video isn't going to make it for the normal deadline then so be it. a heads up via YT post would be nice to let us know everything is (or, God forbit, isn't) ok would surely be appreciated but by no means necassrry (and mostly just to curb our anxieties).

I think the realization that the termites probably stay cool by their nest being underground, this could help in providing better setups when you attempt another termite nest. I always wondered why last year's attempts weren't given more space to bury their nests. I hope next year's nuptial flights gives the channel another opportunity to try again.

I thought you had climate control in the ant room? That ternute arc was super interesting and growing your own mushrooms at home is an interest of mine, so I was excited to see some termite mushrooms some day on the channel. Sad but life goes on.

Love the general ant room update, new stuff and events are exciting to see but it's good to see how the colonies and critters are doing generally 🙂

I like this format of video over the sometimes more dramatical style of video's. A video like this is nicer to watch. (Tho of course the usual zoom ins are really cool). Good stuff!

This video is actually very helpful. Never knew that you released the old carpenter ants. In my opinion they are my favorite. but I understand release them could benefit the ecosystem. Glad that you got new ones.❤

I love the produced story videos but these kinds of videos have a special place in my heart. They have a more of a community feel to them. They remind us of how you're actually a real person & you're actually really keeping the ants, if that makes sense 😅 I was looking forward to seeing the termites again but I highly respect and appreciate your decision to lay off of them for a while. Seeing them would be cool but their safety & well-being is definitely a priority. Ant love forever! 🙆🐜🐜🐜

Sorry to hear about the termites, but not surprised. As you noted, starting a fungus growing termite colony is a lot harder than starting an ant colony. I do appreciate learning that they are gone. I agree that focusing on other colonies might be a good idea at this time. Congratulations for finding the weaver ant queens, good luck with starting up a new colony or two.
