Asuran is a commercial film... of course Vetri's purity was lost a bit but it created a huge debate in the political arena of TN... it was one of the most spoken caste based films ever in TN... in fact you can even split tamil cinema before Pareyerum Perumal, asuran and after Pareyerum Perumal, Asuran, interms of films that openly speaks about castes inequality, rather than criticizing only Brahmins which was considered to be the safest option if you want to speak about caste issues till then(Not to forget Ranjith, tho) ... those two films created a huge, huge impact, which matters the most at the end of the day, beyond the craft ,the way a movie was done, etc...

And a movie should not make only a political statement, the story should be interesting and I felt there were many flaws in Asuran. The long 1 against 30 people fights at the end of every big sequences that come from nowhere just to solve the problems ; the abrupt climax etc. But I believe he made this movie in just one year period so it's still quite impressive and maybe he could have done better given more time.

@diksha singh these are not the same. First off, men exposing their body in cinema is way more frequent then women exposing their body. And often women exposing their body in cinema is just pure nonsense to put a hot scene that was not necessary at all. But I believe men and women shouldnt show their body if it's not necessary for the story. And again, women exposing their body and men doing it is not the same at all. I'm not even talking about culture, I'm talkikg about basic evolutionary behavior. Women's nudity and men's nudity is not the same. And to have a regulated society some rules have been established, sometimes it goes way too far (like honor killing for ex) but other rules like correct dress, marriage, controlled sex behavior are not there to oppress women but to regulate the whole society. I'm saying all this because I live in France, and I've seen how far extrem feminist can go and how much they destroyed some necessary rules (mariage is one of them) and now they're crying about this. And I see the same things happening in India now, so, watch out. A culture should be preserved but modified only to make it bettet not worse. Uncontrolled sex, nudity, excessive freedom with no responsibility are not good idead AT ALL.
