Interesting to watch the worms chase the moisture. The dry layer of leaves created a barrier at first under the compost then after the water was added it created a path on the right side for the worms to enter the moist cardboard layer below. This to me shores up the importance of keeping adequate moisture available in the bin. Cool video as always and thanks for posting.

Yes - I thought that was so interesting to see too. The remained cooped up in that top later of castings until the descending moisture paved the way for them to dive down into the bedding 👍🏻

If they had a safe place to go after exiting then I suppose I wouldn’t mind so much…. but it bums me out when they do that ‘cause that means they’re going to dry out & that’ll be the end of them - poor little wormies

That was amazing! I really do wish that you would have done a voice over explanation of some of the things I saw. I have lots and lots of questions about what happened. That was a pretty wet Bin, wasn't it? I thought I saw quite a few worms look like they had stripes on them. What was that all about? And what was that you focused in on at the end? Something red and something blue.. How did that bin turn out? I'd love to see you extract the worms from that, but it did look like some of them died because it was maybe too wet???? I haven't even begun with worms yet but that was very interesting! Good job! I'd love to hear some of the numbers about that bin.. Like how many worms did you start out with an how many worms did you end up with. Etcetera et cetera et cetera et cetera et cetera........ Again thank you so much for the very interesting video

I didn't weigh or measure them - but I did film the worms while I was recruiting them. I invite you to watch it here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/aYWTZYh4r6iClbM As for the emptying of the bin, I also have a video of that which can be seen here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/qYilo6eJaa9oeKM I invite you to watch that one also - but here again, I made no effort to weigh them or to count the numbers of worms. :) Thanks for watching!

The voice-over idea is a good one. Perhaps I need to prepare a 'director's cut' version :) Oh yeah - and the moisture question. No - I don't think it was too damp. I was more worried that it might dry out since it was uncovered the whole time

@@A-V thank you so much. I think I just watched that one then. There isn't a way to know which ones go together if they're not on the same video so I think I accidentally found it. I just love watching them worms eat and make good stuff out of garbage!

what is the reason behind adding ice cubes..?
@A-V
@A-V Жыл бұрын
The ice is for applying moisture.. but in a way that allows it to enter the bin gradually. Thanks for watching!

Me too. I have some in my uncle Jim mix but no pure culture.

I refer to them as blues - but its actually the Uncle Jim's red worm mix. I got mine from another worm farmer who wanted to trade some of mine for some of his. He sent them to me in Uncle Jim's bags :) Good luck finding blues - I myself have no source to recommend. Perhaps someone who does know of a source will jump in & steer you in the right direction

So from what I've heard that do not use a clear container is not so true! I started a bin in a aquarium and they seem to be doing just find. I notice worms against the glass all the time with just a over head bedroom light on. When I utilize a flashlight to see how they are doing they go into hiding.. The only time it would be a issue would be if you are setting the container outside and exposing it to direct sunlight all the time

The place where the system is kept while filming is very dimly lit so the camera is set to expose each image for 30 seconds... and then I further enhance the brightness within the video editing software :)

@@A-V I have been following you for about 6-7 months, but I have just started this hobby, there are about 120 worms. However, since I will go to university in September, I will transfer all the worms to the lemon seedling that I grew from seed on 15.04.2021. I think it will be good for lemon seedling.
