For me personally, I don't miss the rolling for host or the cold open to the middle of a fake conversation. I feel like 16 times was enough for that bit, although it was fun the first few times. The shorter intro is totally fine by me. And less stress about who's hosting also seems good, it tends to let discussions flow. (Although IIRC Taliesin was like that last time he hosted, not caring about moving along to the next item on the hosting duties, perhaps since he realizes it would actively detract from the show to rush things.)

This whole time, I was rooting for Fearne to just take the opportunities that are presented to her and want her to go all in on optimizing her character... But now that Ashley mentions her experience at ExU and meeting a possible future self who's actually evil... I completely understand her reluctance to take the shard for herself and to accept Asmodeus' patronage and, and, and... Also all the hints at her becoming a hag later down the path is absolutely glorious and I'm all here for it! That would be a great path to explore because as a DM I've always taken the hag exist as a given, it's nice to see the potential path of one that is getting to understand what it means to make deals with beings and get the most out of it...

I once heard "every fantasy setting you've ever loved, is a post apocalyptic setting"
@tkp3751
@tkp3751 Жыл бұрын
I was thinking the same thing as Matt's talking. Forgotten Realms has the Netheril and Mind Flayers and Aboleths, Greyhawk went through a few, Eberron a few besides, Dragonlance had the Cataclysm. I know I've built 2 into my own homebrew world. Even Tolkein's ages were based on various apocalypses. All of these are loosely based on how medieval people (at least those who knew their history) felt about their own world which was post apocalyptic from the (slow) fall of Rome. Where do you think all these lost temples and forgotten tombs are from? They're largely pre-apocalyptic. That's why Old Magic is said to be so much more powerful: society hasn't rebuilt to that point yet.
@J0K3R_the_Nerd
@J0K3R_the_Nerd Жыл бұрын
@@tkp3751 exactly! A pre-apocalypse fantasy world is kinda limited but honestly it's a tempting idea make work . Like I'd be interested in seeing if I could build something that is "before the fall"
@tkp3751
@tkp3751 Жыл бұрын
@@J0K3R_the_Nerd Typically "before the fall" will be the era of super-(magi)tech if it's right before the fall, e.g. EXU: Calamity. But that's because it's around that time that the magic/science gets codified into things that we can use as rules for a game because society has advanced to a point that such codification is possible. Before that codification you can *attempt* to do fireball or whatever, but your results are relatively unpredictable. We need to advance enough as a people to have had time to codify things so that they are infinitely repeatable. That means we need a Rome-like society with an upper class who can get bored and interested enough in something, be it just curiosity or their own power or whatever, who can spend day after day and night after night for decades figuring out how to clone themselves repeatably. That's how it happened before, that's why Rome saw so many advancements in tech and why the medieval period didn't. The former was stable for a long time and the latter was practically defined by its instability. That's what makes the post-apocalypse so appealing: we still have codification left over but without the existential issues like, "If everyone has magic then no one does," or, "If someone tried to firebomb the flying city then there's at least 4 people within sight who can immediately counterspell it, making it meaningless." We don't need to feel like we're playing in a magic-based cyberpunk universe. We're still at least pseudo-medieval/renaissance. Unless that's your thing in which case go nuts (again, EXU:C).

Dani's familiar form would be a secretary bird. Fits all criteria and the name fits the concept. They fly surprisingly well for such a big bird, but nothing that amazing, and they spend most of rhe time either on the ground or at their tree's canopy.
