Totally signing up for your online training! We do most of your techniques anyways because they are so practical. Side note: I've never seen a halti used that way. We use one and has been the absolute dream for a pleasant walk. The sudden lurching is quickly brought to heel without much physicality involved--although we use verbal redirection or even additional direction changes. (the 180* back and forth has been the go-to, seems to redirect the dog's attention to the job at hand which is taking a walk.) edited: typo

So glad you took that awful halti type mess off his muzzle. Love your style. No BS, just get on with it. I use treats as a barometer of arousal level too. If the lead is not relaxed, you are holding the dog there, if it is relaxed, the dog's doing it on his own. Huge difference. You then reward that choice. Great work.

As someone who uses pinch collars, e-collars etc all time. Seeing that dog in a halti getting muzzle squeezed and screaming was uncomfortable to watch. I can't believe people think that's "gentle" and a corrective collar is evil. Great work on this one...

@@southenddogtraining1 so the head collar is a bad thing? The foster charity I'm working with supplied me with one when I told them of the difficulty I'm having with the reactive GSD I'm currently fostering. Martyn Williams the prong collar is the give them more control and confidence. I can achieve this without it but then again I do this for a living, my reactions are fast and I’m confident. My clients to begin with are not so using tools that give more control is a confidence boost

that's an excellent reply mate. i have a reactive dog similar to this in the video and i've watched your videos and they have helped not just him but i've learnt so much from them too. I dont use a prong collar on him (however i understand why you have in this video now) but i have used a headcollar on him before and he was like lenny in this video he reacted more and felt trapped so now i just use a normal lead and try and stay calm and focused and reward him for when he doesnt react which i have learnt from your videos. i just want to say thank you for helping me and ringo even though we havnt met you, your videos have been a real help to us and to others i bet. keep up the goodwork mate and all the best in 2018! woof woof :)

I could watch hours of just experts explaining dog communication. I miss so much that is obvious to an experienced trainer. Timing and knowing when and what exactly to reward or ignore is difficult. Hard to know what to do when things happen that you're not prepared for. I've had experiences where I'm calm, we're good, and then a pack of dogs come running up out of a hedge and surround us aggressively. My dog is trying to leave it up to me, but I can't handle a pack of wild dogs alone. I try to use my energy but I'm stressed and they all know it. I try to put myself between my dog and them but I can't be between all three at the same time. I got out of that situation by focusing on the lead dog, getting it to stop a bit and then just walking away like I owned the street but I was scared they'd attack. Not the first time I've been surrounded by off-lead unaccompanied and nervous dogs. Where I live, it is common. I carry pepper spray all the time now, and am trying your canned air trick as a gentler tool. (I avoid walking so I haven't had to use it yet). That thing you said about being a dog lover instead of viewing dogs as a problem or inconvenience is profound. It is so true though. How can I enjoy walking my dog when I feel like I have to carry a weapon?

A bit upset at the dogs cry/reaction at 10:17, was this to do with the collar used??
@southenddogtraining15 жыл бұрын
Chelsey Freeman it was a combination of a panic and over correction from the boy. It’s similar to the cry at the start of the video with the halti, when he sees a dog and is corrected.
