No way to avoid anxiety whatever choices you make. Authenticity and Bad Faith projects both end in anxiety.
Horney's great contribution was the concept of anxiety. Freudian anxiety is a rather primitive mechanism, a reaction to imaginary threats arising from early childhood sexual conflicts. Horney argued convincingly that anxiety is a primary reaction to the child's dependence on adults for his survival.
Children are uncertain (of love, protection, nourishment, nurturance) - so they become anxious. They develop psychological defences to compensate for the intolerable and gradual realisation that adults are merely human and are, at times, capricious, arbitrary, unpredictable, unreliable. These defences provide both gratification and a sense of security. The problem of dangerous dependence still exists, but it is "one stage removed". When the defences are attacked or perceived to be attacked (such as in therapy) - anxiety is reawakened.

I had anxiety from being with a covert narcissist for 25 years. It took me a long time to sort out if I was a narcissist too. This helped because I was unhappy and wanted help from my anxiety where as my ex husband thought he was totally fine and refused any help. I am totally a different person now after being away from him for about five years now. I hated whom I had become with him.

I listened to both depression and anxiety videos . May I ask what is the difference between depression and anxiety?

If narcissists don’t know what they are, how do I know if I’m one? I’ve had a lot of issues in my life, such as believing I’m always honest and always innocent and always truthful- I’m often disgusted at the fact that people find lying to be ok, or cheating, but I’ve been yelled at for doing things that are “dishonest” that I don’t think are dishonest at all. Is it possible to be deceived by your own self?? I’m very confused about what and who I am, I feel very empty my entire life like I had no identity, and very depressed most of my life, but I have a very high view of myself, my looks, my savvy ways and my ability to attract men, I’m very confused about who I am , though. I went through a long period of being alone when I was younger and then one day I met my ex husband and was instantly felt I found my soul mate (and I felt this when I subsequently met my ex bf, I told him I felt we were soulmates, I really felt that). He turned out to be a narcissist so I’m just confused. Am I narcissist am I borderline am I something else??

If you believe that you can diagnose yourself without any education and training. you are definitely grandiose.

@@samvaknin if I made it sound like I’m diagnosing myself I definitely didn’t mean to. I just suspect, that there is something wrong and looking at my life patterns I believe I could be borderline.

I have a question sir, my friend is a narcissist and I know they never accepts someone is superior than them, but few days before while we were walking he told me and our common friend that i have more potential than him and will become more successful than him. Can you tell why this so?

Want to know the reason why he accepted this and also he is a very strong narc.
