While I'm sure this video will help many people unfortunately neither my phone nor my TV have any screen mirroring capabilities, I can only screen cast (which is different) YT videos using DLNA And a chromecast dongle is too expensive so i would rather just get a USBC to HDMI cable Thank you for the detailed video

Thanks for your comment I thought long and hard about whether to include DLNA in this video because it's really great if it works in your application with your devices. I use it every day because neither a Chromecast video dongle nor Airplay (or Sonos for that matter) will play music above 48Khz sample rates. Unfortunately the implementation from manufacturers is patchy. Some don't work properly due to bugs, Some use the DLNA protocols for their branded systems but intentionally make sure competitors products don't inter-operate. In the end I realized that including DLNA in this video would confuse more than it would inform and left it for another day. Thanks again for the comment I really appreciate the feedback and ideas for future videos.

Hi Anil It would be nice to be able to connect with Bluetooth. Although you can send video over Bluetooth, it has to be either very low resolution or very low frame rate due to bluetooth bandwidth limitations. Video over bluetooth is really only suitable for security cameras and baby monitors.

Thanks I downloaded a version of screen mirror on the Play Store for my Pixel 8 to cast to my Samsung TV and it worked great. The app did cost me 18 dollars for lifetime to use ad-free which is worth it.

There are a few phones that Support HDMI through USB but it is not common. The wireless that I show is WiFi not bluetooth since bluetooth doesn't support video.

Haven't tried your advice yet. I have two questions. I run my smart screen tv through my video. Will it still work with your advice? The other thing that happened, I had a scathing argument with my telco for not bundling my wifi and broadband together. I told them to cut off my broadband and I will never use my laptop again. They cut off the broad band, and now my built in KZbin will not work on my tv. Tried to use hot spot and cromecast dongle but the wifi numbers they request which was on my wifi dongal is not accepted for cromecast or hot spot.

I remember a few years ago when I parted ways with AT&T. They asked me why. I said simply "Because I hate you !", so I do empathise with your situation. Unfortunately many of the services we use depend on that internet access, even when the actual data transfer stays within our homes. Phone to TV is a good example. The developers of apps simply assume that the home WiFi network will be connected to the internet. These services use the internet in the background to connect to servers, which among other things, help to establish the connection with the various devices in your home, and validate that all the devices are indeed yours, and not some rogue hacker. All modern home electronics runs on software. If you don't have a deep understanding of how the software works for a device or app you will not be able to guess if it will work, for a non-typical configuration like using the hot spot feature of your phone,. Even if it should/could/might work, the developer has almost certainly never tested it and debugged it for that use case. That being said, thanks to wireless 5G technology we now have more choices for home internet service. For most homes there is now the option of the Cable TV company, the Telephone company, and a couple of the 5G providers. In some places there are also small, nimble, customer oriented local upstart companies that I would personally choose if they served my neighborhood. Almost nobody needs the super high speed services, so keep it basic, and shop for the best deal. I provided my own modem and router too, to avoid paying the crazy high rental price for those.

Hi, Unfortunately the Pixel 9 uses google cast and the LG TV uses Miracast. I have tried several Miracast apps on a Google Pixel but None I have tried has been reliable enough for me to recommend. Hi There are some phones that support HDMI through their USB C connectors but it is not common (Google your phone model or contact the manufacturer to find out) If it does then you will need an USB C to HDMI cable to connect to your TV.

I'm trying to mirror my phone screen for streaming purposes. when I do the wireless casting method, the quality really suffers, and the stream is choppy. on my Google pixel 8, I can just use a USB to HDMI adapter to get a high quality mirror. problem is, the phone that I want to mirror doesn't appear to do that? like I plug in the same adapter to the same capture card, and it just does nothing. is there any way for me to get it to accept wired mirroring?

Many phone manufacturers reserve that feature for their expensive flagship models. If HDMI through USB is not supported, wireless is your only option.

Hi Matej, There are many receivers on the market that can provide for wireless screen mirror. These were designed for PCs and they all have different limitationswhen used with phones. Some require a matching transmitter, some need an HDMI or other adapter to be added to your phone, and some lack content protection and don't work with all video content. Because of the bewildering array of limitations and exceptions I have chosen not to test any of these devices. If you decide to try, make sure it works for your specific phone version, and supports all the things you want to do. And make sure you understand if you need any kind of adapter for your phone.

No ridiculous here, The whole point is using what we've got. It saves money and the planet; win win. You can attach a Google TV Device or FireTV stick to a computer monitor like a Flatron even if it's old and has no HDMI. What no one explains how to mirror like Bluetooth. Had LG v30 that could connect any TV without wifi. Now I have samsung a14 no screen mirroring or can't use usb c to hdmi. Is their program that does screen mirroring like Bluetooth or just get phone that has that capability.

The best way to screen mirror without WiFi is to use HDMI through USB c and as you say not all phones have that capability. You can't use bluetooth for video it doesn't have sufficient bandwidth, and I have never heard of a TV that has a Bluetooth receiver (Most modern TV's will transmit bluetooth audio but not receive.) It's theoretically possible to use WiFi direct so you wouldn't need an existing WiFi system but I've never done it.

I do not know of any screen cast solution that works without a Wi Fi network. To go to a location with no WiFi you would have to set up a local hot spot and log Phone and TV in to that.

There is a thing called wifi Direct that doesn't need a WiFi router for a connection. Your phone probably has it so check to see if it's available on your TV. Miracast works over WiFi Direct, Chromecast doesn't. My personal experience with Miracast over WiFi direct hasn;t been good. It dropped the connection repeatedly for no obvious reason, and making the connection in the first place was pretty hit and miss. Your TV may work better.......or not.

Standard Android supports casting to chromecast from the swipe down actions and settings (Flashlight, Bluetooth, screen record etc.) Smasung Phones and some others replace that feature with casting to their own TV's which may or may not work with LG TV's and definitely will not work with chromecast. If using the Google Home app is too clunky then go to Settings> Connected Devices>Connection Preferences> Cast. You should then see your Chromecast. With all types of screen mirroring the phone and the TV need to be on the Same WiFI. Range extenders, Powerline adapters, switches and other intermediary devices to aid connection back to a distant router often prevent device discovery by your phone. The router settings themselves can also get in the way.

Hi Sam if the only connection to your TV is via a broadcast receiving antenna then you will not be able to screen mirror wirelessly. Your TV needs to be connected to WiFi in some way, either directly or with a video streamer like a Chromecast.

Unfortunately not every version of Samsung TV works with every version of Samsung phone . If both your TV and phone are logged in to the same WiFi network and you can't get them to connect then your only option may be add a chromecast device. On a Samsung phone you would need to use the google home app to screen mirror to Chromecast. Hi Since you were able to cast to another Roku TV it appears that your phone does support miacast which is the technology Roku uses, but not all Android phones support.. Try going to the settings and and under "screen mirroring mode" select "Always Allow" If screen mirror still doesn't work you may have incompatible versions on your phone and TV miracast is quite a minefield of different implementations. You may still be able to play personal videos photos and songs stored on your phone using the "Play on Roku" feature of the Roku Mobile app.

Hi Lucy, I just noticed that you also posted a different question about your remote control This answer may address both your questions. Your TV and phone support different incompatible forms of screen casting. To use your phone with your TV you will need to add a Chromecast enabled device this means either the confusingly named "Chromecast with Google TV" or an Android TV box from another manufacturer . You may also prefer the user interface and the remote control of these devices to the Web OS installed on your TV.

On a samsung TV you will need to add a chromecast for the google home app to find the TV for casting. The chromecast will need a WiFi connection to the internet to set it u. . The phone and the Chromecast need to be on the same wifi network.

Motorola phones run a very standard version of Android without a lot of add ons. They screen mirror to Chromecast out of the Box. If you have a TV that doesn't support chromecast. Any chromecast, Google TV or Android TV video streamer can be plugged in to a spare HDMI port will give you that capability.

Hi Lucinda Not having screen cast in the pull down menu is not a big deal if you have a TV with Google TV or chromecast or you have a Google TV or chromecast device attached. Just look for the chromecast symbol in the app you want to use, and select the TV you want do cast the content to. This is better than screen mirroring because the app formats the content for the TV screen better, you don't get texts or alerts popping up on the big screen and the phone gets freed up for other things. You can be sending and receiving texts and your casted content keeps playing. Hi, Miracast on a TV will not work with most phones. It won't work with iPhones and it mostly doesn't work with Android. The only situation I'd really recommend using Miracast is Samsung Phones on a Samsung TV where Samsung have made some updates to both the TV and phones to get it to work right. The only really dependable way to screen mirror with a non Samsung Android phone is to use Chromecast. Fortunately you can do this on any TV by plugging an external device into a spare HDMI port. There is a Google TV stick, the Onn Streaming Stick which supports chromecast that costs only $15 I've tested it and it works great for screen mirror with Android. Hi ,I have never seen a TV that is capaple of Video input through a USB port. USB on most TV's is only for software updates and to power external devices. You could try a USBC to HDMI adapter, it should work. I have not tried this on a Samsung phone but I would expect samsung to support this capability.. Alternatively you could use a chromecast or android TV stick Full HD versions of these can be purchased for less than $30.

Samsung and LG both use miracast technology but they are not in lock step as to which version they are using or what enhancements they have added which may lead to compatibility problems. Try updating the software to the latest version on both the TV and the Phone. I have a galaxy A05s and a Bush tv . Both are brand new and it seems it's impossible to watch things like football matches I can get through my mobile to my tv screen. I could do this on my older Redmi phone very easily so how come the simplest of things like wireless connection from any phone to any TV isn't possible. I'll tell you why. It's because phone and TV manufacturers can be incredibly selfish and greedy and want you to just buy their brand for EVERYTHING in your home. Makes me so annoyed.

Your phone and TV need to be on the same WiFi network. Chromecast won't work if the phone data connection is 4G.

If you don't want to use Wifi then you need to connect via an HDMI cable since bluetooth does not have the bandwidth for Data. To do that you need a USBC to HDMI adapter. Apple have done a great job in convincing all the TV manufacturers to include their Airplay code, they set the standard for both ends so it works great. Android can work just as easily with a clean version of android (for example Motorola or Google) and a TV running Google software (for example Sony or Vizio) Unfortunately some companies like Samsung want to add their own proprietary branded modifications to Android, and they design their phones and TV's to work together with their own tech, which causes problems with other brands. You CAN get a Samsung phone to work with a Sony TV but it is not obvious how, and not as simple as it should be.

Hi The built in screen mirror feature on the Fire TV doesn't work with many android phones. I have been able to get the Fire TV to work by downloading the AirRceiver app onto the fire TV. Although this app is mainly intended for iPhone users if you check the "Google Cast' box in the settings it will screen mirror with any android phone using the Google Home app on the phone. The Air receiver app is a $3 one time purchase.

Smart view on many phones (for example Samsung) uses Miracast technology which Sony does not support. To screen cast on Sony with this type of phone you will need to use the google home app. You can find this in the video at 2m:25s

You do not need a smart TV. This video covers Any TV with HDMI If you want to be precise I could have said any TV made in the last 20 years. If your TV predates HDMI there are still ways but they are a bit Klugy and I really didn't think there would be enough interest to put them in the video. If your TV has HDMI then just add a chromecast (or a Fire TV) I show that in the video. You only need the cheaperst versions since no TV that is not a Smart TV will need more than 1080p resolution. Hi The $75 per month is for the internet connection I've often seen internet providers trying to up to sell a faster level of service than we really need. The absolutely slowest level of service just basic internet connection is liusually all that's needed and should be significantly cheaper. if your current provider won't do it, check your area for the lowest cost provider. WiFi itself is free to use in your home.

Hi Adam, You have to be able to establish some kind of communication between the Phone and TV. The iPhone has a lightning connector, bluetooth WiFi and cellular phone connections. A non smart TV has HDMI and maybe component or composite video. There is no overlap so you will need something to translate between the two. The answer to whether it is possible without buying anything depends on what you already have (a Roku streamer or apple TV for example). If you do not already have any means to make the connection then the cheapest way to mirror an iPhone to a non smart TV is to use a lightning to HDMI adapter and connect to an HDMI input on the TV..
