According to the DVD commentary for Season 19, the only reason this song remained was because this episode was produced during the 2007-08 Writers Guild of America strike, and the writers weren't allowed to edit any scripts until the strike was fully resolved.

That story in that episode was a reference to 1955 Disney film Lady and the Tramp. They also made a Disney reference to 101 Dalmatians for that episode: 22 and one greyhounds. Like Cruella, Mr. Burns wanted to turn the greyhound puppies into furcoats that’s pretty messed up. No animal should be turned into furcoats, they’re living creatures for heaven’s sake. Lady and the Tramp was one of my favorite classics as a child. Lady had a happy life with Jim and Darla, then she got confused of why they were acting strange and Tramp, Jock and Trusty told her that Darla was having a baby. When Tramp told her that when the baby moves in the dog moves out, she got worried a bit but she had nothing to worry about cause her family are good people they would never dessert her for a baby, they even let her see them. Aunt Sarah didn’t like her that much at that time and even took her cats side thinking sweet lady would hurt them when she was only stopping them from causing trouble. Fast forward to the end, Tramp was welcomed in the family after he saved the baby’s life from the rat, they didn’t realize they misjudged him if it wasn’t for Lady. They also had 4 puppies, the cocker spaniels daughters were adorable 🥰, I wanted to cuddle 🤗 them so much.
