It's really fun for us to get carried away with finding special occasions to wear fragrances for: best fragrances to wear while cleaning your house on a Saturday morning, to wear on a second date to the movies, to wear to your younger cousin's middle school graduation, to wear to your first day of work as a salesman at the Verizon store...you get the idea.
But in my opinion, all of these occasions we can come up with can be boiled down to just four general categories:
1. Year-Round Dumb Reach
2. Professional
3. Night Out
4. Formal
Now is this to say that you only need four fragrances? In theory, sure. But variety is the spice of life. So in this video, I'm sharing three recommendations for each of the four categories that you can consider. However, the most important thing is that you consider the categories for your own life, and fill them with the fragrances you have!

I really like the exploration of these topics that just get thrown around all the time. Really appreciate that perspective. Would love more content like that. For instance, the word sandalwood and creamy sandalwood get thrown around all the time, and having your experience with fragrances. I would love to know more about a note and how it looks in different fragrances or something along those lines. I apologize if you've already done videos like that 🙂 was just thinking about this recently. Thanks for the content and definitely want to try some of these fragrances! I have tried the seven hills and it is awesome!

Great content. I'd be interested to hear your take on what an "optimal" fragrance wardrobe size would be for enthusiasts. I think far too many people think they need a 50+ bottle collection, which all too often results in wasted money as bottles simply collect dust. Related to this would be a discussion around how larger decants (10 - 15 ml) can play a role in one's fragrance wardrobe. Do we really need 100ml of dior homme parfum? Probably not. My personal opinion is 10 - 20 fragrances is "optimal" for a large collection. Yes, I said it. 20 bottles is a large collection - you can put way your pitchforks. The reality is that the average person would stare with mouth agape at a 20 bottle collection.

Smelt that the other day. Compared to some of the other fragrances in my collection it’s not as complex or deep, but I think it’s perfect in that regard. Its longevity and push power is insane tho. It’s on my list.

Love the video. I had a few dumb reaches that I keep coming back to every now and then ( Issey Miyake pour homme, Versace pour Homme, Allure Edition Blanche) but now mostly I use Boucheron pour homme edp. Love your professional selection, though I have to revisit the Egoiste Platinum as I have the older classic Egoiste a completely different scent with a much bolder profile (a unique one in my opinion). For this category, I usually go for Dunhill London, Eau Givree, Vintage or Beau De jour. Love your night out selections, I usually go for Ambre Eternel or Costume Nationale pop collection, I fing the Gentleman series work also especially my personal favorite: edp Boisee. Love your formal selection, Stairway to heaven is a pure work of art and so is Ebene Fume along with Terre D' hermes edp (getting one soon).

I put it down to 3. A summer, day fragrances that can be used as a dumb reach. A masculine, professional that has complexity like woods, fougere, leather, etc, and a date night that can be used for winter. So a perfect first category would be BDChanel or profumo, 2nd would be TF grey vetiver, aventus and the 3rd could be JPG elixir, Br540. Essentially the same as yours but combining professional and formal.

Ursa by Tiziana Terenzi smells very close to Straight to Heaven only thicker and deeper due to it being an exstrat. Also you can find it cheaper when on sale. Great list, Justin. You keep trying to tell us we only need a few fragrances, but we keep buying... 😂

If you like it and think it matches your vibe/style then you should get it. Scents, like color don’t have gender. BR540 isn’t a “masculine” fragrance, but it’s the highest selling niche of last year because men and women and everyone in between loves it.

Weird. None of these types apply to me. I have no use for a dumb reach, and I mostly wear fragrances when I'm alone for aromatherapy. If I'm ever in public wearing them it's kind of by accident and I don't plan for the occasion.
