Anya Taylor-Joy upturns her Parisian tote bag for Vogue, revealing the
sentimental keepsakes that stay with her wherever her job might take
her, from award-ceremony Polaroids to a beloved crystal collection,
plus the multiple books she has on rotation.
If you’ve ever wondered which bag Anya Taylor-Joy might entrust with guarding her most precious and personal effects; well, it’s actually a tote bag. Although one from her beloved bookshop Shakespeare and Company. The Argentine-British actor professes, ‘I tidied it up for you guys.’
The Last Night In Soho (2021) star is an avid reader and keeps at least one paperback in her bag. At the moment it’s Kink: Stories by Garth Greenwell and RO Kwon, and her second choice, The Dud Avocado by Elaine Dundy. ‘I believe everyone should have a book in their bag.’ We quite agree.
Wherever her career sweeps her off to, one thing the actor keeps close is her journal to help her process. ‘I'm always writing, so I always have a notebook on me.’ On the back cover she’s written a quote: ‘Be content with what you have, rejoice in the way things are. When you realise there's nothing lacking, the whole world belongs to you’.
From the cerebral world to beauty, Taylor-Joy’s essentials include a bristle hairbrush, complete with a trusty hair band, but she otherwise keeps things simple, packing just mascara and lipstick for her everyday makeup.
Memories, however, take up the most space - the actor packs photographs and a disposable camera in her bag - so she can look back on, and capture, important moments. She proudly shows a wallet of polaroids she uses to reminisce on occasions such as the Golden Globes 2021, where she was celebrated for her performance in the award-winning Netflix miniseries The Queen's Gambit (2020). ‘I started taking photos myself because I forget everything; I like taking photos of people when they're working. I do it like a spy’.
And one of Taylor-Joy’s best kept secrets? Her love of crystals and tarot cards: ‘You wouldn't imagine how many crystals I have in this bag and what it weighs’, she confesses. But, if she had to swap bags? Hands down, Cher or David Bowie are clear winners.

I find it ironic that Anya isnt considered Latina by many people because she doesnt look like a stereotypical latin woman when she lived in Argentina, has an Argentine family/citizenship and can still speak fluent Spanish with an Argentine accent yet many hollywood celebrities are hyped for claiming to be "Latino" but cant even speak Spanish. edit: looking at the comments I see many people are still confused about race, ethnicity and nationality go educate yourselves and stop relying on American stereotypes.

I’m not exactly sure which celebrities you are referring to, but it’s important to realize that even if you don’t speak the language, it’s still your culture. Sometimes parents don’t teach their children the language. I think it would be wrong to exclude someone from their own heritage just because of the language they speak or can’t speak.

She's not considered Latina because she's not. there's a difference between nationality and ethnicity. Even her Argentinian parents have European ancestry. Also, not every Latino person speaks Spanish. people from brazil would also be considered Latino despite it not being a Spanish-speaking country. you're mixing up latino with Hispanic, which is Latino people from Spanish-speaking countries, including Spain (but not including Brazil). She would be considered Hispanic because she is from a Spanish-speaking country.

Her father is English and Scottish and her mother is half English and half Spanish from Barcelona and born in Africa. So genetically speaking, she’s fully European. She was born in the US and lived in Argentina until she was 6 yo when she moved to London. I think it’s up to her if she considers herself Latina, since she has such a colorful background.

Like she would give interviews for magazines like vouge, flair, etc., everyone asks her about what's in her purse, her style, her looks etc. and she adjusts, but she has so much more to put on the table. And you misunderstand tarot cards completely if you think they're just some kind of woo-woo psychic fake thing. :) A tarot layout doesn't predict your future, it makes you think about your present and what you can do to improve your life. Some people find it a handy tool to make them self-reflect and consider their behavior and actions, and then course-correct. It's no different than reading a self-help book or taking a self-improvement course, tbh.

Just to remind people that Latin Americans can be of any race. They are white, black, indigenous, Arab, asian or a mix of anything and everything. A white Latina of European descent is still considered Latina. Same with Americans, Americans are of any race and culture. In Argentina, Brazil, Colombia, there are many people with European descent who are even whiter than Anya. That doesn't make them any less or any more latino. Anya's parents and whole family live in Argentina and they consider themselves latinos of European descent just like many other latinos in Hollywood like Alexis Bledel.

@@franz3810 you my friend need to be educated. All of Latin America is composed of immigrants from Europe, Arab countries, African countries. If you do a dna test on a Latin American it doesent say “Latin American” it will say: European, indigenous, Arab or anything. Argentines or Colombians are people who many have pure European DNA because their ancestors were Europeans who moved to Latin America. You seriously need to consider educating yourself a bit more.
