Tbh my fave is the “I’m trying to ignore the fact I think I look terrible” awkward ones just cause that is so very relatable. It’s so hard to not show when you’re having those Doubts(tm) because the costume doesn’t feel up to snuff or you’re just not feeling it that day but you made the plans and worked hard on the thing and want to have evidence but also kinda don’t want evidence.

AmeriLu I’ve definitely gotten better by practicing poses in the costume beforehand. Having props also makes posing a lot easier (for me). Last con I made a gun prop and it made posing a lot more fun and interactive with people.

I don't know how to pose and also my sister and I often do cosplays together and our friends aren't very good at taking photos of us 😬. No real hate to them though, we all need more practice 😋 my sister can take decent photos and we really gotta try doing it more often. Also, of course you can't be the person taking the photo and posing at the same time and no one notices your insecurities as much as you do. The best photo I have in cosplay is my sister and I as Ghostbusters and that's because you can not feel confident in such a bad ass outfit.

This reminds me a lot of when I cosplayed Gundham Tanaka, I’m so used to cosplaying bubbly and sweet characters so trying to look serious during the photo shoot I did was so hard skkssksjjs I looked so confused and uncomfortable in literally EVERY single photo LMAO

You're right, photographers take lots of photos and only show their best ones. The library of bad ones I've taken since I was little is massive! But that's how growth happens. The dead inside look you mentioned happens when there are no catchlights in a person's eyes. To look alive, eyes need to have light reflecting off of them. My photo teacher told us about it. And I know that scared look too well. I've done it myself and have seen other photographers end up with photos of a scared, but smiling person. Being comfortable is the most important factor for good photos. It really shows if it's just not happening that day. Practicing poses in the mirror is a must! You have to see what poses look good with a cosplay or outfit. Something that photographers should do is help with posing. They can see if something looks weird and fix it by telling you what to do. Even if it's just a slight movement or a variation of the pose you're doing. For portraits, our job is to help you look your best.

I think having bad cosplay/halloween photos is part of the fun! Sometimes I like looking back at pictures of costumes/cosplays I’ve made a few years ago and even if some of them look cringey or awkward, I just remember how cool or awesome I felt wearing them at the time! :D

I would love it if you would do an advice video on taking and posing for cosplay photos. A "Dos and Don'ts of Cosplay Photography," maybe, so you can turn some of these photos that didn't turn out great into a positive learning experience for those who aren't as experienced with doing photoshoots, as well as showing off some of your favourite cosplay photos and talking about what makes them particularly good.

I have a similar body type (wide hips and not flat stomach) so knowing that someone else was able to Cosplay characters with body suits/form fitting outfits and overcome insecurities really helps me feel better and gives me a boost of confidence :)

I think this was a really good idea to do. Because I can also have these thoughts when I think that other cosplayers are so good while I struggle with expressions, poses, ideas, you name it. And most of the time I end up hating most of my photos than liking them. I only like a few. But I have to remember that I´m not the only one who struggles with this. I´m NOT a model. It takes practice and many tries.

If this video taught me anything, it’s that the cosplayer is always harder on themselves than anyone! I thought these were pretty normal photos while Anya was like “why am I LIKE THIS? Noooooo!” Which just goes to show that if you feel self conscious about how you look in cosplay, other people are probably just thinking “oooo cosplay! Rad.”

I cosplay a lot of male characters and Since I always take my one photos on my phone, (cause my budget is next to nonexistent) I never quite get it, It's always awkward looking, and cringy as heck. maybe I'll get two or three good photos per shoot, but the rest are just Cringe XD. But the worst part is when I do take photos for other people they're amazing compared to when they take photos of me. I am more experienced in photography than they are, but it is annoying that I can get any good one s of myself XD

hey just a note from someone that knows a lot about microphones, you should never tap any kind of mic to check if it's working, just say 'check check'. Plus you need to soundcheck with what you'll actually be recording (your voice) which is a bit of a distance from your lapel mic, tapping it directly won't give you a proper feel for the correct levels and such. I say it's the equivalent to smacking a baby on the head (a baby that probably cost quite a bit) and it's not pleasant for headphone users lmao.
