@taylorreptar78984 жыл бұрын
Outdated Creative You do realize that all you did was simplify it to a point that they’re nothing alike, right? The fact that you’re telling others what drag is as a matter of fact, well that honestly shows you don’t know much about it ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ and this coming from a straight man lol. Drag isn’t JUST “creating a whole new person”, it’s not even necessarily creating a whole new identity because some people who perform drag don’t do it to become that person. Everyone who does drag has a different reason for doing it, just like cosplay. All you did was point out the differences, but no one was literally saying “they are exactly identical”. Drag isn’t just down for the performance or routine, just like cosplayers don’t just do it for the artistic aspects of it. Some cosplayers do it for the enjoyment of the performance they do, and it can be done in many ways all the way up to going to conventions to actual setup performances. Lastly, your entire point of “you’re creating a whole new identify of someone that doesn’t exist” is a completely invalid point in the fact that MANY Drag queens imitate some of their favorite people in their routines... JUST LIKE COSPLAY. And do you honestly believe there aren’t cosplayers out there that create an entirely new identity through their cosplay? As in, create their own character that exists for them, but aren’t actual characters? Cosplay is exactly what it’s name says, it’s “costume play”, or through your own(or someone else’s) artistic way creating a costume to become your favorite character. It’s not strictly limited to anime/manga although that’s where it originated, it’s as much to some people a way of life as it is an expression of art. So what is Drag? The literal definition, and the original use of the word, is simply just “a man who wears woman’s clothing”. That’s literally all it takes, but even more so, extending the definition It’s typically a male(although it can be done by anyone) who wear drag clothes to imitate and often exaggerate femininity, typically done for entertainment purposes(and typically is the key word here meaning this is what’s done mostly, but it’s not essential for drag queens to be drag queens). So we have Drag: men dressing in woman’s clothing... someone who dresses up as someone or something they are not to become who they are dressing as, whether imitating someone famous or creating their own identity. Often, but not limited to, exaggerating femininity and used done in shows and performances for entertainment And Cosplay is: someone who dresses up and often uses makeup to become a character of their choosing. Often, but not limited to, used to imitate that of anime/manga, and the person becoming the character they are portraying. Done mostly for entertainment purposes but also, for some, as an escape and a way of life.
@taylorreptar78984 жыл бұрын
Outdated Creative Just saying ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ Someone made a joking observation for lighthearted fun, if you’re going to be an “um actually” and correct them, then you May want to know what you’re talking about. Literally everything you said becomes invalid by the simple fact that the only qualifying factor in drag is “a man dressing as a woman” although woman can be involved because the idea of drag queens have evolved to become its own visual, but just because drag shows are popular and many people use exaggerated features, that doesn’t change what drag actually is because females have only really performed in more modern times. It’s even funnier when you realize a male cosplaying as a female character IS DRESSING IS DRAG 🤣 Which completely destroys your whole “you are a whole new person in drag and creating someone who doesn’t exist”. And LASTLY, the blatant ignorance of “Not exactly, I’m a cosplayer” added with “drag was created by the LGBT community, and I’m a part of that too, just adding that in there to let you know that I’m right and know what I’m talking about” is hilarious on many levels. First off, the origins of the word aren’t completely known BUT the first recorded use of the terms are in reference to make actors dressed in woman’s clothing in the 1870’s ... the word itself has nothing to do with your sexuality, and you can’t lay claim to the creation of a word just because that something is more popular in the lgbt community. Yes, most of those who practice drag are also part of the lgbt community, but saying “we invented the word so I know what I’m talking about” is just flat out wrong. I mean, I’m still laughing at the fact that you are both a cosplayer, and part of the lgbt community, and even with “all your authority in the matter” you were wrong on literally everything you said, an honest Drag Queen would be severely disappointed at your simplification of the term(and honestly, I can guarantee many drag queens would happily say what they do is similar to cosplay), but the absolute best part of this? A straight male had to be the one to correct you in an LGBT matter, which I’m sure you’ll probably just ignore or get upset because if my “Mansplaining” 🤣 I’ll pull a you, “being a fan of both cosplay and drag, I know what I’m talking about and this gives me authority on the matter”(lol, I don’t actually believe this, but I always love when people try to correct someone, and have to add “And I’m directly involved” but end up being wrong) I don’t cosplay myself(not because I don’t want to, but because I can’t really afford to make any costumes right now and don’t always have that much time, I know I could do cheap costumes but I’m extremely OCD and also artistic so whenever I am able to, I prefer good quality to get everything as exact as possible) but I am a huge fan and have known and watched many people and listened to WHY they do what they do, and the reasons, although “because I like this show/character” is the biggest reason, there’s still a uniqueness for every individual that cosplays. I also don’t perform drag because it’s just not my thing, but I’ll honestly say I do enjoy the performances and find enjoyment in seeing all the hard work and dedication involved, and understand there isn’t just a single thing that makes drag, but many different things, all unique to the individual involved.

An extra tip! Make sure your hairspray is wig safe as some can clump up and make it crinkly and dry, do make sure you always brush the hairspray out after a con or taking pictures! Another tip is to NEVER *EVER* use gel. Unless you *absolutely* have to. Gel ruins your wigs horribly and you can almost never get it out. Hope this was some help! 😌💓💓

Gluing the wig blew my mind! That's such a great idea, I will definitely have to try doing that! How do you get the eyelash glue off of the wig afterwards? I find it so hard to keep my wigs in good condition... It's like, a little gust of wind comes along and my whole wig is in knots...
@IwasakaMiyuki8 жыл бұрын
I like rubbing in some oil based makeup remover and then use a narrow toothed comb/toothbrush (unwanted lol) or spoolie brush to get the glue bits out xD Perhaps you can try using some non hardening hair gel/hair spray/cream to coat the wig fibers, or a styling product that can 'weigh' the wig fibers down to minimize tangling. I always do that if I have a long wig, it makes detangling after wearing a lot easier too

I am really curious about how can cosplayers wear different kind of contacts lenses but never get red eyes. I only wear those clear ones but the blood vessels on my eyes are so obvious my friends always ask me if I am OK. I don't feel itchy or pain in my eyes but just really wondering how to remove the blood vessels.
@robbi.sa61748 жыл бұрын
You probably shouldn't remove the blood vessels in your eyes, but it is natural for the eyes to get irritated when wearing contacts. I get that too if I wear them too long. You should probably contact your optician or look up a new brand of contacts, since they aren't actually supposed to leave your eyes reddened.
@Silentgrace118 жыл бұрын
Um....I really hope the statement of "how to remove the blood vessels" isn't literal .-. Those are kind of, sort of necessary. I recommend talking to your optometrist about your prescription, or even something as simple as changing around your daily routine. Even something as simple as your cleaning solution could cause redness and irritation, or possibly extensive eye strain on top of using the lenses.
@kittikatastrophe50118 жыл бұрын

A little late to this but I think this is a helpful thing to know when cosplaying: depending if you wear contacts are not ur makeup will look a lot different in my opinion it's the exact opposite of wigs washing ur makeup out. Contacts make natural makeup look more extreme while if u don't wear contacts it looks like ur wearing nothing. Although contacts aren't necessary if you do decide to wear them keep in mind that ur normal makeup style for cosplay probably won't work as well

I can't buy the supplies and I don't know how.
@kevinjudd55668 жыл бұрын
one tip I can give for cosplaying on a budget is to find a character you like that wears everyday clothing (or something similar) I couldn't buy the supplies for a long time and I managed to find stuff laying in my closet for an Edward elric (his movie version) cosplay....and if you feel you are missing a piece, look around at local thrift stores or ask some friends if they might have the piece you need.....I also recommend cosplaying characters with a similar hairstyle to yours or something you can style it into (or if you are brave enough though this part costs money, color your hair to match the character) cosplaying is for everyone regardless of funds or experience...I didn't really know what I was doing the first time I cosplayed....but I just learned to have fun with it.....hope these tips helped
@taompons8 жыл бұрын
basically what kevin said, think of your favorite character that has a simple clothing or everyday clothing like a kofuku for example(pink plaid tie and skirt with collared button white shirt) and find anything from thrift stores to your closet or your mom's closet idk lol. and just buy wigs that are decent quality off of amazon or ebay. i didn't do any of these stuff since i bought my first cosplay when it was only 50% the entire outfit(excluding wig)

Wow gluing the bangs to your face is really smart. My last costume I wiped my eyebrows off from constantly pushing my bangs off to the side and it probably didn't help my eyebrow blocking method either. I have to use scar wax and spirit gum since my brows are so thick.

Really awesome tips definitely going to use them. The only thing I say I would do differently is when you use the spoolie to comb your eyebrows. If you have thick, and dark eyebrows like I do. Do not use this method. Just skip the spoolie entirely, but otherwise use the same methods. If you use the spoolie it can create an uneven texture like mine do and is very difficult to cover up. Eyebrows will poke through you're makeup. Just a tip.

This has so casually and accidentally answered so many questions I've had about cosplaying. I'd like to myself, but I'm too fat to do most normal characters and I'm too skinny to be most fat characters.
@thatfangirlkid71504 жыл бұрын
no matter what, you can still do a cosplay!! Ive seen short people be giant characters, and reversed. One big thing among cosplayers is that you should always cosplay who you want to and forget about (or try to, anyway) your weight
@SaleenSundria4 жыл бұрын
@@thatfangirlkid7150 lol thank you, if I did I'd feel like I wasn't doing the character justice though, bodily acceptance aside. Maybe if they were a modest character or one that wore a lot of clothes I could cover it up with a corset or something, but otherwise I'd just feel weird.

-sew stiff fabric into the boob area of a stretchy/spandex tank top to make a gc2b-like binder -contour your inner eyelids for more masculine eye shape -highlight your jawline -wear brown lengthening mascara -keep the hairs when you trim your wig so you can use them for moustaches or beards! Hairs can be attached using eyelash glue -contour an Adam’s apple if your neck is exposed -fill in your eyebrows, but brush them out a lot so it looks more natural -if you’re the type of cosplayer to act “in character” at a convention, try to keep your hips stiff when you walk- use your legs and shoulders instead. Unless your cosplaying a David tennant character. Then use your hips too 😅

the problem I have with my wigs is that from the side my real hair is always visible (especially the small hair in front of the ears and above them). I started now gluing it and then covering it with makeup but I'm looking for a better solution... someone got an idea?
@IwasakaMiyuki8 жыл бұрын
I have that problem sometimes too, some of my friends shave off their side burns, or if not I'll use a little gel to comb the small hairs back and pull the ear parts of my wig lower, then use hair pins to secure the wig above my ears. Hope it helps :D
@cindyoreolover98737 жыл бұрын
I sometimes use hair chalk or normal chalk to make it the same color as the wig you could even use that Halloween spray dye. Which works unless it's a lighter color. A friend of mine alters her wigs and sews extra wefts for more coverage. Check ardawigs for wefts and such if you wanna try that

Here is a tip I use a lot, get a wax colored pencil or any color pencil would work fine, than get boiling water turn the heat off and then let the colored pencil sit in the water for 10 minutes. Than you got a great eyeliner, lip liner or something to add designs to your face! 😸 you should try it, it works better than you would think!.

Well It's not an obligation to look beautiful and perfect, just have fun ^^ a cosplay can be simple and natural ! Me too, I don't have a smooth skin or a sharp face and lot of money, but I don't care :33
@epicslay6 жыл бұрын
@@Sol_lby thanks! :D
@AlottaBoulchit5 жыл бұрын
You should look into color correcting makeup for the red tones! Just using foundation won't work. Like I think to conceal redness you use green and it neutralizes the tone so your foundation can do the proper coverage. Makeup is totally a form of magic so you can do just about any face morphing with it. :D Never say never and always go for your dreams! If you wanna cosplay you will be able to! 💖

I'm from Singapore ! :D You can consider using Pros-aide (Prosthetic Adhesive) instead of glue stick, its the only method (Best results and safest) that professional SFX makeup artists use in the industry. I've tried it on clients with supppppeeerrr bushy brows and they cover like a charm. But remember to get the Prosaide remover too or else you'll have hours of fun trying to remove it :x You can purchase Prosaide and prosaide remover on SFX makeup sites like camerareadycosmetics :D
