BGP routes are very tunable, but you will be at the discretion of what your service providers or peers will accept and propagate. The major benefit here is that you do not need a proprietary solution to implement it. Most customers considering global DNS load balancing will likely already have their own BGP AS. Of course this is also a solution already solved by the major cloud providers as well where most of this is abstracted away beyond some "knob tuning".

You actually HAVE some control over anycast BGP routing, specially using BGP communities (path prepending, local pref, etc.)
