The canary curse being broken or disrupted angered the watchers so much that they punished the person that would be left surviving by leaving them alone in the world without any ways to die. If they manage to die from their own hands, they'll bring them back to torment them for eternity until they start the next death game loop.

I’ve always seen Martyn’s arc throughout the life series as a tragedy or horror story. He always got a glimpse of the cosmically terrifying truth every season, just to get shut out over and over again. He finally breaks the cycle, but betrays the trust of his friends to do so. The way I see it, he was driven to madness in his search for the truth. And because of that I’ve always felt like he was the most isolated of the big five.

The Big Five, as I like to call them. Each one had their own tale, their own victories and shortcomings. And what’s really fascinating is that each story is different from the last. Grian was a freedom fighter. He caused chaos, resisted the Red King, and rode through thick and thin with a friend he owed true allegiance too. And yet, as the creator the game, as the puppet of the watchers, it’s hard to say if he truly defied the system, if he was truly free. Smajor was a hero. His friendships, his alliances, and his commitment to staying a good person kept him in the game until the brutal end. There is no doubt that Scott was and is worthy of the life series-winner title. Pearl sought justice. The people around her abandoned her, and she took what she deserved in response. But more than that, she understood when the scales were balanced. When Scott chose to sacrifice his own life, to make amends for the fallout between them, she forgave him. Because Pearl only wanted for everyone to be treated fairly. Martyn made his life into a tragedy. He was always so close to the watchers, always so close to the truth yet turned down at every opportunity. He needed to know why the suffering continued, how he could break the cycle of pain and regret. But in searching for it, he was driven to commit terrible acts. He became a monster of his own making, only seeking the crown. And when he finally got his chance, he did nothing but consume time, while he let time consume him. And Scar was an epitome of all those who came before him. He had been building a reputation since the first season, getting stronger and stronger as time went on. When the secret keeper demanded something of him, he always followed through, forced to trudge through the consequences of actions he didn’t want to make. He accepted a role as a villain on the server, and in the endgame it served him well. But when it come down to the line, when he was given the option to backstab Pearl and take her lives, he chose to tough out the fight ahead of him, because he didn’t want to deny someone else the opportunity of winning. And in the end, the combination of acquired skill, loyalty, and humanity made him into the final member of the big five. By and large, I see this crew as the winners of a first season, since their arcs all tie into each other in really compelling ways. But I’ll always be excited to find out who wins the golden crown next.

How does one manage to be poetic? I love how you put Grian and Smajor so simply while the others got progressively more complex. As is what often happens in writing, things start small and simple. I find it intresting that you didn't mention Pearl's insanity at all though.

could someone explain the history between scott and pearl?? ive only watched their povs on last/double life, what happens in limited and (especially) secret life? i feel like i missed a lot lol

@@lycostic So the imagery that I was adoring is a clear parallel to last life and double life, evidence by how the 2 shots right before are them trading deaths noted by the outfit change. But in general the 2 of them have had a unique bond across the life series once pearl was added. The main thing with them is that after last life and double life they intentionally stayed away from each other since they spent the last 2 seasons together, yet every time the 2 of them always make it to the final 4. They don't have an a direct hate towards each other but rather they intentionally find other teams yet the finals always end up with them on either side of each other. Limited life ended with Pearl placing 4th after failing a teamup with Grain, Impulse(2nd), and Etho to kill Scott(3rd) and Martyn(1st). Secret Life ended with Gem(3rd) and Scott(4th) dying to Pearl(2nd) and Scar(1st). Essentially the 2 are bound to have a similar fate through different means. Pearls initial allies all tend to die before the finals (BigB in limited, moles in Secret), while Scotts initial allies (at least 1 anyways) survives to the finals (Martyn in limited, Gem in secret)

You've synchronized the beats with the shots very well and I love it! Especially with this song where the timing of things like the bass and the beat is so critical to the feel of the piece as a whole! Now to nerd out over cool parts I saw: First off the Scott and Pearl yin/yang at "chasing windmills round in circles"? I want to live in your mind, its so perfect, you are actually so smart for that one the parallelllllllsssssssss The little moment of violently fluid animation with Martyn on "feel a gladness" with his hair tie and smirk and *wow* that was pretty And then of course the immediate shot after that with Scott and Impulse over "work that it's done", with them being Martyn's work and- mmmmm goodshit The Grian segment with the opposing shots "mountains" where he's kneeling, "molehills" where Scar's kneeling, and it's really the opposite the song says mountain and its the molehill, the song says molehill and it's become a mountain and again your mind is a wonder- Back to the Scott/Pearl part you did the parallel shot again with their deaths and then the little figures inbetween on either side of the screen and they're in different positions bc of their changing relationship- Rusty I could say it a million different ways but your choreography is so good, you have such a good instinct for framing and perspective. Martyn preaching sermons bc he's the one doing Watcher lore and all, ohhhhh this song fits so well and I never thought of it but now I'll never unthink it you mad genius SCARRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR The whole thing with Scar, really; I could *hear* the task book be slammed shut in that moment, he was Done. With what? With the tasks? With trying to not be a villain? With playing the Watcher's Games? The answer is yes So yeah; you cooked and you ate and you left no crumbs, I will love this in particular for probably forever.
