Anysecu UV-K5 Review

I bought a couple of the Anysecu UV-K5 radios to try out... Find out if I'm happy with my purchase or not so much.
For the price and the features it's packed with, it's kinda hard to complain too much! Let me know your thoughts in the comments.

The instruction manual is extremely useful as this radio has a unique menu.

I was annoyed at the Function key to navigate at first. But now I love this radio.

The UV-5R is probably the best radio for beginners. I have a ton of em.

Definitely a cheap option... I know they can be frustrating to program for beginners. Lol

I bought the same radio. It took me a few to get used to the key layout, but i like it. It went into my kayak gear bag. If it it drowns, I won't be heartbroken. I have like 5 UV-5G's I can go to. WMRJ495

That is the nice thing about these inexpensive radios! You aren't heartbroken if it goes flying across the parking lot, in the mud or takes a swim in the river! Lol. Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment!

Each time I go to the website and click on their DOWNLOADS icon my Avast Free antivirus software goes nuts and blocks things. I contacted the seller and they told my there was no problem. It was probably that my anti-virus just doesn't like to download executable code. However, I download executables all the time without Avast going berserk. And I hadn't even gotten to any downloads. The alarms went off from simply clicking on the downloads page icon. I realize that others have downloaded the software without complaint, but I figure it's best to trust Avast. Have alarms gone off when others tried to access the downloads page? As I have 2 of these radios, and CHIRP doesn't seem to support any UV-K5 under any brand name, I'm more than curious how to program them.

I heard many complaints about downloading Tidradio's software... This is the 1st I've heard about issues with this. I hope they get it fixed soon!

over all I like it (UV-K5) I did not know about the NOAA alert, and I found out you can have one mode (a-b) in frequency mode and one in channel mode! (my Bay O' fang's cant do that!) my biggest beef tho is not being able to disable transmit on public bands! (listen to public, talk on MURS) so mine are set to FRS GMRS MURS Marine only.

I have two of them but mine are the QuanSheng UV-K5. These are much better than my Baofeng UV9R and UVS9, heaps more features. I have seen some online have mixed results, maybe the QC aint that good. It works on Chirp and for me, is very easy to figure out. I have better HT's but these are to keep in the car and go kit. The Anytone and Wouxun are the ones I use often. ;)

So what listing under Chirp did you supposedly use? I had no luck with Chirp whatsoever. You'll never get a worthwhile number of channel memories programmed into this thing with the manufacturer's software. They take forever to enter.

Not that I have seen, but USB-C charging is definitely helpful. 👌

Only issue that would been the cherry on top is full ptt like the baofeng uv 82. But it's another manufacture. Has excellent 6m reception but you need a 6m antenna on it or it won't work. Rocks on 220hz with tribamd radioiddy antenna . . They need make extended batteries and the uv 5r is dead. 😅

I will take this over the UV5R. Specifically for one feature, it has a frequency counter built-in. I honestly use it exclusively as a frequency counter. Sure you can just buy a frequency counter, but most good ones are more expensive than the UV-K5, and the cheap ones are useless at night because none of the screens are backlit. Or you could get a handheld Uniden or Whistler scanner, because both also have frequency counters. Handheld Uniden and Whistler scanners are a lot more expensive. The UV-K5 is probably the cheapest frequency counter device you will find with a backlit screen. To me the frequency counter feature alone makes it way better than the UV5R. If you wanna know a frequency you just hit the F key, and then the 4 key, and it will find the frequency and the tone if they are using one, then just hit the menu key to save the frequency.
