Anyone else ever notice in A Year In The Life, there were so many things that kind of came full circle. As much as we Gilmore Girls fans tend to dislike A Year In The Life, in a way it was kind of genius the way they did it. Lorelai was 16 when she had Rory. When Rory was 16, Lorelai was 32. Rory got pregnant when she was 32. It was just weird, the dynamic... how Lorelai was a mess when she was younger, but she ended up being very successful, and Rory had it all together when she was younger but she ended up a mess.

I don't understand why 99% of the people who watched this show bash Rory regarding her failures. This is life. Everyone could hit rock bottom eventually in life. In fact, this is what teaches you the most. To me, her failures made her more human. It was a phase, not her true self. "Year in a Life" could have been better? Of course! But I found interesting that she turned out (in a way) the same way as her mother. There is a psychological meaning behind this. The whole TV series explains their relationship (daughter, mother, grandmother) through a psychological approach. The only thing I didn't appreciate about Lorelai and Rory was their self-absorbed personality. Other than that, I saw humans learning through experience/failures, and I personally learned a lot, specially after watching it for the second time.

but don't you think that lorelais situation is different from Rory's in the sense that she was 16 when she hit rock bottom and rorys attitude in a year in life is also completely different from lorelais when she was 16 in the sense that lorelai was determined to be self made even if it meant that she had to be a maid in an inn and rory fell asleep in her job-. it wouldve be been better if she was 23-24 and then pregnant with Logan's child with an abstract ending like sherman previously intended but i mean she was 32 , has been basically given everything and yet turned out like that. lorelai and rory are way different than most people think

I do understand it now better too, I have been a "nerd" (although much more of a procrastinator than Rory and wasn't sure what to exactly do after studies) but I got a really amazing internship, worked my ass off, suddenly I saw the direction that was better than I expected, thought my evaluation was amazing, but then yesterday my uni supervisor told me that my evaluation was good, but not excellent, I thought my whole world shattered, I understand her disappointment now better than before. Yes, even a lil thing can shake a person...maybe it's being a perfectionist. But yes, I have few things coming up, but it is not sure and everything can change and not be on the path one wanted. That's life unfortunately. And not gonna lie, it's utterly scary.

i mean she is an example that theoretical, academic knowledge is not everything and you need to put yourself out there to succeed and develop some social skills too. she never wanted to make any contacts and was pretty privileged so..i gues she got what she deserved at the end.

I just don’t understand what happened. I’m not speaking academically, everyone can hit rock bottom and build themselves back up, but her character and spirit was so lost in the ‘A Year In A Life’. It felt wrong.
@deseraesahar8527
@deseraesahar8527 2 жыл бұрын
I'll tell you what happened. She was a girl used to privilege and was lauded for her academic status with no other skills but studying. In the real world, she isn't used to having to struggle for anything and even turns down a job that looked for her because she sees herself as above it. Basically, she had a mature intelligence, but never matured past that.

@@lauriecarson6483 I actually have struggled. I have lupus and ADD that were both diagnosed in my freshman year of college and caused me to have to go on gap year. I know what struggle is. There were many times I feel like Lorelai called Rory out but because Rory saw her as her best friend therefore she didn’t take it seriously and in the end Lorelai would apologise for upsetting her! Like when Lorelai told her to grow up and that Yale have many study areas so someone occupying her study tree wasn’t a big deal, Rory continued to negotiate about the damn tree

0:38 The way rory has inspired thousands of girls to live her lifestyle and at the same time those girls didn't have the pretty privilege that rory had is insane. I include myself. I was nerd asf and got bullied almost all my study years.

You realize we don’t actually SEE her studying, right? She sits in front of her papers and stares. She sits in front of her computer and makes a phone call. She sniffs a book. She talks during class. She sits pretty on a bench reading a novel. She sits pretty under a tree with her notes and opens a novel. She talks about studying. But we never see her cramming over her notes trying to remember things

Probably because many people were more interested in her relationship than the scenes of her studying except for the studious ones. Kind of disappointing indeed.

hm maybe that's because the plot is set in the early to mid 2000s and that was before constant technology overload destroyed our lives :D so now we need to watch ambient sounds and "study motivation videos" to calm down and concentrate for at least half an hour :-) gotta love it
