Asiac Assimov the most influencinal science fiction (not fantasy as he was a scientist first then author) of the last century, wrote in one of his time travel books, the main character transported into far future earth, an distopian grey dismal earth, asked a local future earth resident, what happened to all our hopes that space exploitation was going to solve all our problems, he answered casually without looking up from his paper, oh that was just another dead end 😲. Wow that thought stopped my reading in its tracks.
