I like the realness of your videos. Oil catcher too small, cheap gear oil, forgetting a rag, and stuff like that makes scout life relatable and exciting for regular guys to get working on their scouts. Thanks for what y'all do.

79 Scout ii, Spring over, shackle reverse 2.5" springs, 35" Goodrich all terrains. 345 4bl. The shackle reverse dramatically changed the handling for the better especially with the 5 degree caster , lots of grinding and welding. Took 4 to make 1 good one. Fuel injection was the next step but wifey made me sell it to my kids footbal coach. Shoulda kept the Scout and traded her off. Scout rode better without the bitchin.

On my 5100’s I put my cans up because they are emulsion based shocks (nitrogen charged), it’s generally a requirement that they are mounted can-up. If you don't, you'll starve the seal of the floating piston, but keeping them mounted can-up keeps the seal flooded at all times. Maybe check that for yours.

All these videos have been great, I'm glad you're doing them. Lots of valuable information! I would love to see a video on what you like to do for steering setup... Things like steering boxes, straight steers, ball joints, alignment; specifically caster. These old Scouts don't always drive the best, I've had varied success messing with all those items on my Scouts. It's been a long time discussion with lots of ideas on the forums. I'd love some insight on what you guys have found works to make them drive NICE!

Thanks for the videos man. Just got my first scout (72 scout ii) and I enjoy the content you put out. Always giving me the skinny on what to look out for. If you make your way to the Shenandoah Valley in Virginia look me up. Keep the videos coming bro.

You're welcome to come help me wrench on my Scouts! Please! I need help! I'm in So Cal. Rough Country shocks were way better 15 years ago, imo. Very smooth ride. I bought some new ones and compared them to my old ones and they seem like mass produced garbage now.

In another one of your videos you spoke about closing the rear hatch by using firm presure on the outside corners to help prevent the hatch from "banana"ing... how would you repair a hatch that has the banana problem?

Would love to get away from my shocks and try this set of Blistiens. How did you figure out what ones to get with you lift etc?
@jhastings732 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the vids! Are you running a 2.5" lift on this? Curious about the 33's rubbing on the leaf springs with those size tires.
@SDwriter.and.surfer Жыл бұрын
Spring rub is never a problem. You just need to adjust out the stops on the front knuckles. Rubbing eliminated. Where the tires will rub, and rub bad though, is on the sheet metal. At the front edges of the front fenders. And especially, in the rear wheel wells.

How did you figure your length?
@stevekahle49152 жыл бұрын
Question about your oil choice. First do you still use straight 30 weight oil? Do you add any ZDDP additive? Was doing some research on older engines and the need for extra zinc. Thanks man!

What size lift? 2.5” or 4”

Yes you have to have good shocks; to keep your teeth ( or dentures) in your mouth. Always loved the Scouts😎

I have a 73 scout 2, and did an oil change a week ago. I put high mileage full synthetic oil in it and im losing oil pressure at low rev. I plan on putting conventional oil back in it. Could this fix my problem? Or make it worse. Any help would be appreciated.
@SDwriter.and.surfer Жыл бұрын
Synthetic or conventional, shouldn't make a difference with oil pressure. More important is what weight oil you put in. FWIW, many IH owners run 15w-40 (for diesel engines) in their Scout/truck engines. I run Shell Rotella T5 synthetic-blend 15w-40 in my 345. Been using it for about 8-10 years now.
