This is a great truck. I've already watched this video series once. And I'm watching it again just for fun. I'm working on my own 392 200 series 4 by 4. And i'm really enjoying it and wanted to see what you did again. I got it running good and I'm working on breaks right now. And it's great to see what you were dealing with with the oil pump And pressure. Thank you all for your video I'd love to see some more of these.

That is one nice old truck! They sure dont make them like that anymore! Makes me miss my 68 scout 800 all wheel drive.. she was a tank that never left me stuck. Had a few coils fail on the road but never got stuck! Good luck with the old girl! ✌️

It's nice to see you potentially branching out into the trucks!! And also nice to see you still at it! I got my first ih 99 and remember going to your shop in San Jose. Keep up the good work!

This is for the Cornbinder enthusiest. I have and will give for free a complete seat in blue cloth with vinyl trim from a 1969 3/4 ton 2 wheel drive that had only 9k on the clock at the time the seat was removed. This seat is like brand new and has been in my basement since it's remival. The reason it was removed is it was replaced by the 3 bucket seat combo out of a Travelall. I live in central WA State.

Bill! If you're interested we would love to claim this seat! Can you shoot us a photo or two to our email: parts@anythingscout.com. Thanks Bill!

How do I boost the oil pump
@robgm69262 жыл бұрын
I pulled many an old pickup home in my younger days. First thing you do is wheel bearings brakes make sure everything is greased like the kingpins which a lot of people forget.. I don't know if you showed it but you should always take those adjusters off of the brakes and free them up and lubricate.. They looked kinda rusty.. Every old truck I ever drug home they were stuck.. that little voltage regulator for the gauges looks like the one I replaced in a 1958 A180 to get the gauges working. You think maybe you got a mouse house down in the valley? Don't know how a mouse would get down under the intake manifold but them little boogers get in all kinds of places. Could have come in through that fuel pump opening and worked his way up. If they were still in there somewhere when you covered their hole up with the fuel pump you'd be smelling cooked mouse by now.

That is one nice truck!!! I'm so glad you're leaving it original. I'll never forget I was so perturbed one time when I saw someone rescue an old international pickup short wide box with 304 V8. I thought he was going to run that old engine and leave it original but he pulled it out and put in an LS! I was soooooo disgusted. Stopped watching the video immediately! Those old 304, 345 and 392's would go forever. They sound great too! I'm betting a mouse built a nest up in the lifter valley. Don't know whether it would be a good idea to pull valve covers and intake to make sure it's all gone. If that nest is big, you might get more clogs.

Nice! Wondering if that organic material was a rag that was stuffed into the fuel pump by the original owner.

I would highly recommend using some Deoxit on your contacts. Not only will it clean them up, it will also prevent future corrosion. Works great in those standby flashlights too! And using dielectric grease ON the contacts is bad. Dielectric grease is an insulator. If using inside the boot to keep water out or inside spark plug boots so they will come off, okay but not on the contacts.

Great job in hunting down that oil pressure problem. With that and the lights you’re showing the value of re-using instead of just replacing

I just brought home a 67 International step side pickup. Trying to figure out what I've gotten into. Its a 6 cyl 4 speed 2wd body is solid except for floor pans, truck has no windows. I need to totally rebuild the doors and seals. It runs with a 4.5 psi electric fuel pump. But has lots of fuel & oil leaks. Has Holley 1904 carburetor. Has been sitting since 2013 with no windows :(

Nice work Sean. Looks like you may have dodged a bullet on the engine. I hope so. Time will tell. It's amazing how small a hole rodents can fit through. I pulled a seized 392 from a '72 parts truck that I have. I tried really hard to get that thing to rotate before I gave up and yanked the motor. Once I got it out of the truck, I tore it down so I could autopsy and see if it was salvageable or a total boat anchor. What I found was an entire family of mice had taken residence inside the engine. I found two baby carcasses in the oil pan. The parent mice were on the top end of the engine. Momma was behind the camshaft gear. I'm so glad I wasn't able to get that engine to turn over. Had I been able to, I probably would have connected fuel and battery and gone for it. I learned my lesson on that one for any revivals of long dormant engines that I might undertake in the future. Pull the drain plug for a second and make sure the oil coming out looks and flows like oil instead of molasses or chunky peanut butter. Overall, my 392 was in surprisingly good shape. One cylinder wall had enough rust damage to hook a finger nail pretty easily, so that meant an overbore on all 8 holes was in order. I first had the block and heads tanked and magnafluxed. They checked out great, so I green lit the machine work. I went .040 on the pistons. I still have some more final assembly to do on the long block before I install, fire and break it in. I wouldn't be at all surprised if you pulled the valve covers and found some foreign matter still chilling in your cylinder heads. I wonder about the rocker arm shafts too. As thick and sludgy and fibrous as the old oil was, I'd be concerned about smaller lubrication ports and passageways not getting fully flushed out via the lubrication process alone, which wouldn't necessarily show up on your oil pressure gauge. Might need a more medieval approach there. It's such a hassle though. Maybe run it by Al and see what he thinks. As for the ABS plastic grille insert, yeah 50 years of UV ray exposure just turns them into plate glass. I have a pretty decent one on my '71, but I'm not parting with it. I may be parting with the whole truck eventually, but not the grille. You might consider sourcing a grille insert from a 1970. Those were a chrome plated single horizontal bar, so a bit more durable. That '71 plastic job is a one year deal. There aren't that many viable survivors left out there. Overall, it's a great truck and kudos to you for giving it a new lease on life. It deserves to be cared for, enjoyed...and yes...worked too! That's what they were built for.

Just found the channel, back in the day we would drain the oil, put a gallon of kerosene in disconnect the coil and spin the engine a few minutes, drain and refill with clean oil. Really cleaned the engine. We burned the kerosene in the shop heater.

I've spent the last 2 years doing the same stuff on my '73 Scout II. I've totally enjoyed each mystery, problems solved and even the set backs but I wouldn't trade the experience for anything. I know every inch of my Scout and gained so much knowledge that you just can't put a price on. Well you can, just don't tell the MRS :) Just did a 2 hour, 120 mile drive as a shake down, furthest its driven in many, many, many years. Wrapping up the last few little details and we are taking it on a 700 mile journey to Fruita, CO from Bozeman, MT in 6 days. No better life than the Scout Life!

Pull the valve covers again and check the oil drain backs. Was nice to not see any cam bearing material in the pan when you pulled it! My 345 has 2 aftermarket lifters that don't hold oil pressure on #1 cyl until after about 20 seconds. And the stock cam was questionable but still runs strong with worn out cylinders and mega ring ridge. Did a junk yard Bill Hamilton EFI set up and got 2 mpg better. Was getting 11 mpg with 4.88s and 35s. Need to do a test how it is with 5.38s and 40s now! Love this truck!

Sean, I have a '77 Scout 345/727 base 4x. I've purchased alot of parts from you guys, but only have part of the suspension and the upholstery finished, it'll be a restomod. Bigler built the front/rear bumpers w/swing out spare holder. Engine has 52k original miles on it, I'm 3rd owner, know the first 2. It's been sitting for approx 8 years, neutral switch went bad. The cheapest way to go is to clean, paint, and run it, but I don't want to have to pull the engine later. Trans has to come out for a full rebuild. Would you leave as is like you did with this 392, or replace all engine gaskets, new valves/seals/spring but not rings/bearings, or tear it all down and do a total rebuild?

Remember when these trucks were uglier than that one aunt that you would see only at Thanksgiving? Now, they seem to be some of the best looking. (Can't say that about Auntie....if she had at least not taken her teeth out after dinner ...that would of helped).
