Thanks for watching, for what it is I was pretty impressed with the performance of the radio. The only faults I can point out with mine is that the rotary encoder is bouncy, likely a bad encoder, and that the IF filter is too wide for SSB. 73.

I love my Anytone 6666. It has some different finals, bigger capacitors and max mod. Mine goes from 2 to 20 watt dead key. 60 watt average when turned up and about 120 to 125 watts peak. Good clean audio and all on frequency. I’m getting my instrumentation degree so when I came in I took it to class to use the scope and spectrum analyzer. With my instructors help I tested it and it was very clean. My instructor has his amateur radio license and used to own a electronics repair shop that specialized in radios. My radio doesn’t get hot. Just a little warm if I talk for a long time. I get lots of compliments on how I sound. I was running it barefoot for like 3 months and it did great talking skip. About 2 months ago I got a 4 pill 2879c with SSB. Running it with the Anytone it great. I can tell the amp can handle more drive but my radio does a good job. Also those 4 2879C’s love that current! I get some voltage drop. I plan getting a super cap to help it out. With my radio driving the amp it does 380 to 400 average and 700 pep and it barely gets warm. I love it. I’m running a 6 foot skip shooter on a workman triple mag mount that you can use your own coax cable on. Barefoot I could talk skip no problem but sometimes didn’t have the power to reach some people in Australia. But now I can pretty much talk to anyone I can hear. 73’s! 881 Texas mobile radio.

Thanks for watching. I have been having a blast with this radio on 10 meters, my only gripes are that the rotary encoder (at least on my radio) is occasionally bouncy, and the filter for SSB is a bit too wide, but overall I am pleased with the radio. I run this radio stock in my truck with a Browning 140 cut for 28.500, I still use CB but mostly use a NOS JC Penney 6247 in the HAM shack with a Maco 5/8 vertical. 73 and happy DX!

@@CraigPetersen12f36b Yeah the encoder on these is definitely not the best. That’s one reason I like the stock mic. Before this radio I never really talked on SSB so I have nothing to compare it too. Overall it’s been a great radio.

I was in Hunt County (NW corner) on a hill, with no obstacles, with a 35' tower, on a A-99 and my Anytone AT-5555n, talking to Europe in the morning, Artic Circle City, NP, CA, to Santiago, Chile and South Pacific in the afternoon and deep into the night. Great equipment makes DX'ing fun.

Not a dorky video. It's hard to find good low budget radios. This is one of them. This radio is also good sounding out of the box.

I would just like to add to my previous comments; This is VERY USEFULL INFORMATION particularly in todays world of Electronics. I understand that the " Anytone AT-6666 " is not likely built to the same standard that a " Harris or Motorola " radio, but, it is important to know that a person whom would buy this radio is getting a " USEFULL LEVEL OF QUALITY BUILD ". QUALITY in anything (even some of the more expensive brands) has been falling away in recent years. This applies to FAR MORE than just electronic products. To many things on our retail store shelves LOOK LIKE what we associate with QUALITY but are truly anything but!! These INDEPTH TESTS such as are being carried out in this Video on this Radio give VALUABLE insight as to what is a MANUFACTURES CLAIM and what are the REAL FACTS!! and I again THANK Craig Petersen for making this information available to the General Public!

Thanks for the great tutorial. If I run this stock radio with the power turned to maximum, what would the amperage draw be from the 12 volt car battery? Could I plug this into a cigarette lighter outlet or would I need a dedicated hard wire?
@CraigPetersen12f36b
@CraigPetersen12f36b 7 ай бұрын
Typical current draw for a stock AT-6666 running full power on FM is about 7.5 amps. I don't recommend using the cigarette lighter plug for anything over 5 amps. The center contact can have fairly high contact resistance and may present issues for you. I use the "Littlefuse add a circuit" pigtail and draw power right from the fuse box that's inside the cab of the vehicle. In any case, I would recommend a 10 amp fuse. I use a 50 watt 2 meter rig in my mobile and have had no issues. Thanks for watching!

I'm using the stock mic, it seems to work very well and I get good signal reports on the audio. It's also nice to be able to change frequency with the push buttons on the top of the mic instead of using the tuning control on the front of the radio.

I also get good reports with the stock mic. Every once in awhile I use my Astatic 636L noise canceling mic but I have to turn the mic gain all the way up for it. And also with those you have to have the mics mouth guard up against your lips. It does give my voice a little more bass. But I mainly use the stock mic. I like that I can change the channels with it, not have to have it right up against my mouth and don’t need to talk louder than usual. Overall it’s a very good radio as it is. If you haven’t gotten one yet I got mine from truck Cb sales with the Truckerized package. Upgraded finals, capacitors, voltage regulator and Astatic mic. I tested the audio when I got it on a scope and made sure it was transmitting it n frequency with a spectrum analyzer and it was all good. I mainly did the upgrades for longevity. Also I hear these radio can run a little warm when you talk a long time. But with the different finals, other upgrades and tuning mine barely gets warm. But from what I’ve heard from many owners the radio is great out of the box.

Sir I do have a question but it's not related to this radio. Just an example, 29ltd at 2.5 watts deadkey, swing at 15 watts pep pushing into an rm italy kl300p. The amps dk at 35 watts swing is 140 to 150 watts pep. What is really being transmitted, the average or the pep at 150 watts? Reason I asked is, if it's 150 watts, why is the current draw is only less than 10amps compared to my 2 meter radio at 90 watts draws 15 ampheres. Shouldn't a 150 watts draws more current out of the power supply? Sure would appreciate it sir.

Good morning Francisco, It boils down to meter accuracy and it's ability to respond it fast transients, what is typically observed is the average or RMS output, some meters have a peak hold feature to overcome this limitation. Current consumption on AM and SSB will always show a lower reading than running FM due to it's constant carrier operation. Another thing to take into consideration is the amplifiers class of operation, class A or A-B will always consume more current than a class C or D amplifier to generate the same output. I hope this help answer your question, 73 and thanks for watching.

Hi Craig, That was an amazing video. You obviously have the equipment and the knowledge to properly check the 6666 out. I have the same radio. It has never been installed yet, but it has been altered (no further comment). I want to trust that it is on frequency and working properly. I bought it because I do a lot of interstate driving to visit my kids and my RCI 2970 would not fit in my new vehicle. I have a Sirio 5000 antenna that will be roof mounted using a Breedlove Puck mount. How can I get you my 6666 for you to bench check it and what is the fee? I will be honored to be able to send it to you for evaluation.

Thanks for watching! I used to service radios but haven't in some time and don't offer it as a service. From what I have experienced with my AT-6666 you shouldn't have an issue. I run mine stock with a Browning BR-140 antenna and have not had any issues, even with the base load antenna I am running it gets out pretty well. I know several people who have used these rigs and none of them have had any significant issues with them.

@@CraigPetersen12f36b Hi Craig, I understand you are pretty much out of business, however since someone had already put there fingers in it (I know some of the caps were upgraded), can I please just get you to bench it, I will pay shipping both ways plus what ever you want. The radio is brand spanking new. It is going in a new 2022 Silverado. I am just hoping it is on frequency and stable. Your knowledge, equipment and skills show me that you are the real deal. I am an old guy, I am medically disabled/retired LE now (38 yrs of service) living in the Foothills of the Great Smokey Mountains here in Tennessee. I also have my Tech Class license, but I will be honest, I just got it for eleven meters when on the interstate (my twins now live in Florida). cliff70chevy@gmail.com

Thanks for watching Mike. Unfortunately I am unable to answer your question, I know next to nothing on the 955's performance other than what I have seen here and there on KZbin. In my experience Galaxy radios of the past were "drift'o'matics", had horrible selectivity and were just poor performing radios. I was apprehensive with this radio at first, but was impressed with the radios performance and build quality, for $200 some odd dollars I cannot complain too much.

I bought this from a friend of mine who bought it new and never took it out of the box. He decided to get a different radio and install that instead because the radio was too deep to install in the dash of his truck. You can find them from sellers on eBay or Amazon for around $250.00. I have had this in my truck for about a month now and I am happy with it's performance. Thanks for watching, 73.

I have used this radio several times on 10 meters. Worked several stations back east out of the mobile. Would get unsolicited comments on how well the audio sounded. The only issues with the radio I have is the rotary encoder is a bit bouncy and the receive is a bit too wide on SSB for my tastes. I added the near impossible to find CTCSS tone encoder so I can try some 10 meter repeater contacts with it. But overall, for the money, it's a very good radio. Thanks for watching, 73.
