This is one of my favorite radios I own! Once I got comfortable with the CPS, it’s smooth sailing. I use for GMRS, analog 2m and 440, and DMR. Thanks for making this video! 👏🏼

Appreciate the video. Are you able to program anything into the radio after you set it up with the CPS?

1:50 I thought it was part 95 for GMRS. Or is that only for FRS radios? It would be awesome to be able to use DMR on GMRS.
@NorthGeorgiaGMRSNetworkDOTorg111 ай бұрын
Part 95 is what separated frs from gmrs as two separate radio services. In the rules it states that any radio certified in another radio service for that frequency range is allowed. Which is where part 90 comes in. Gmrs is right in the middle of the commercial radio service which those radios require part 90 certification.

I have been a little curious about this radio . And you just nailed it for me. I am going to order 2 of these and 2 bluetooth ht mics. More to come.

As far as dmr goes , do you have to have a hot spot ? Or is that only when there is not dmr repeater available?

So, can a person use this radio simultaneously on the gmrs band AND on the ham bands? Seems like if it can, would be a good option to invest in 1 radio instead of 2 radios (gmrs & ham).
@NorthGeorgiaGMRSNetworkDOTorg19 ай бұрын
It’s a part 90 radio so yes, you can use it on GMRS and in other services.

Considering a D578Pro for UHF/VHF/GMRS. Anytone's triband antenna only covers UHF Rx (400 - 480 MHz) Tx (420 - 450 MHz). What mobile antenna do you all use to cover UHF/VHF/GMRS? Also, where can I buy a D578 Pro? I can only find AT D578 Plus, which does not appear to be capable of UHF/VHF/GMRS. Thanks for the help! Cross posted on the 878 review

For a mobile antenna I use the comet 2x4 NMO mount. It’s a multiband antenna so obviously not going to be as well as a single band antenna but it does do decent in all. Under 1.5 swr across the board. Chat radio carries the pro models. They have a web based store based out of Chattanooga Tennessee.
So torn between one of these and a handheld 878uviii plus… Gonna be my first dmr, I already have a ftm 500 for dual band and a ten meter rig.. What do you recommend? Ht or mobile as my first
@NorthGeorgiaGMRSNetworkDOTorg18 ай бұрын
Honestly it depends on what your intentions are. If you are just strictly gonna use it for dmr with a hotspot then go with an ht. If you want to use it for dmr with repeaters then get a mobile. Why I say that, dmr is either in or out, the repeater won’t let you in if your signal is weak. If you want to work dmr repeaters, best to have the extra power in that case.

@@NorthGeorgiaGMRSNetworkDOTorg1 at this point I don’t have any Dmr repeaters nearby so I was gonna use it in shack as a kinda general Dmr radio

Without seeing your specific setup. My guess would be you forgot to uncheck the box for keypad lock. Sorry for the delay in response.

How would this compare to ftm-500 on receiving
@NorthGeorgiaGMRSNetworkDOTorg18 ай бұрын
Receiving is going to have more to do with your antenna system than the radio. Of course the ftm-500 is a good solid amateur only radio but also doesn’t do dmr. The ftm-500 also can receive on GMRS but not transmit.

So, I am at my wits end. I bought the 578 knowing I was going to get my tech license which I have. But can not get this to transmit on my 578 my BT01 is lighting up with the red symbol displaying tx but can not get no replies. So, I bought a handheld TYT MD-UV 390 plus and it can transmit on GMRS but because of my luck there is no sound coming out of it … it displays that someone is transmitting on digital or analog but I can’t hear it… I bought it to help test the 578 to no avail….. “George is getting upset” please help…. anyone… anyone….Bueller

I don't know if you had any comments regarding the legality of using this Anytone D578 radio on GMRS frequencies, but I just wanted to set the record straight... The AnyTone radios are capable of many different Band Modes. Legally only two Band Mode versions can be imported and sold; one with FCC Part 97 Amateur Bands and a second Commercial FCC Part 90 version that has only commercial frequencies and no amateur frequencies. The radios are Part 97 compliant and Part 90 certified. While the AnyTone radios may be capable of GMRS /FRS / Fire frequencies by a Band Mode change , in other words, the North Georgia GMRS Network group is using this radio illegally (unless you have a separate Part 90 certification for the North Georgia GMRS Network group). While we all need to decide for ourselves how much of the FCC rules we want to follow, it is always a good practice to inform the viewers the truth of the matter. Personally, I don't care that people or organizations follow or don't follow any rule out there. So have at it 🙂, BUT you SHOULD inform your members the correct principles and rules and let them decide for themselves. (just my opinion). I did really enjoy the video! You did a great job of explaining the CPS and especially the options in the CPS, which is a rarity with this radio. Great job!

Thank you for your comments and kind words. Part 90 radios are well within compliance of fcc rules for GMRS frequencies. In part 95e “ any other transmitter certified for use in that frequency range” would be a part 90 commercial radio certified by the fcc in that frequency range. Part 90 certifications are typically 450-480 mhz give or take. There are even some clarifications issued from the fcc that state part 95e was by no means intended to exclude part 90 radios.

Why on earth would you want to purchase this radio for use on GMRS? This is an Amateur radio that you would be paying dearly for to get operation in bands that are not GMRS legal (2 meters) plus DMR (Digital Mobile Radio) as well as other features that are needed or legal to use on GMRS. There are many other radios that are far less expensive but just as capable for use on GMRS.
@NorthGeorgiaGMRSNetworkDOTorg1 Жыл бұрын
Thank you for your comments. This is not just an amateur radio, it is a part 90 certified commercial radio. Commercial radios have proven to perform and sound better then the cheaper consumer grade radios. Also we provided this video as over 40% of our membership also holds amateur licenses. This radio allows for many options to our members in a good reliable platform.

I bought this radio because I … A. have GMRS license. B. currently have some channels that I want to receive are digital. C. If I want to explore and expand into amateur radio I now have that ability without purchasing a second radio.
