If you can afford it go ahead, this is a much better radio with FM and DMR. Colour screen, better receiver good luck

I use my 878 as a 'scanner' everyday. 878 scan rate is faster than 868. Awful shame that while scanning memories, if you stop scanning - it doesn't stop on the memory channel that's active at the time. A couple of tips... * I set the blue button to toggle scanning on/off. * Set the step to 12.5khz for commercial/business frequencies

Hi yes the buttons are programmable and that's a good suggestion. I love the customisation of this radio. Just wanted to show it in a simple way which would work for everyone thx
@epradius13 жыл бұрын
In the. settings you csn select what should happen. You can set if stops on active channel you PTT on the same, or PTT makes the radio to go back to prefered/preset channel for PTT

Can i just ask, what general range are the business/commercial frequencies on? Thanks.

You actually don't need to bind a button to the scan. Long-press of up/down button triggers the scan.

New to the anytone, what Quick Disconnect is that for your antenna? 📡 📻

Hi Richard I was using the radio in the car and I needed a mobile antenna connected. I believe it was just an SMA to pl259. It just allows me to plug in a mobile antenna

Scans what you’ve programmed into your code plug?
@digitalanaloguehamradio2 жыл бұрын
Codeplug is a collection of settings. Channels that you can go back to any time. And you can scan this. But the VFO is the variable frequency oscillator. It is simply the frequency you are on that you can alter with an up down tuning knob. Where you search for new frequencies. But the digital makes things different. Because you cannot do this with any digital radio. On this radio that beauty is you don’t need to know the colour code or timeslot. Did you watch the whole video

Nice one Chris. I've been thinking about some "pretty serious" radio upgrades. I used to do quite a bit of Summits On The Air, something which I'm getting back into & I want to upgrade my radios for that. Last night I ordered the Icom 705, which is meant to be an amazing "shack in the box" for portable operations, especially for digital modes (I often like to run both FT8 & SSB when portable). I'm also thinking about upgrading my handheld. I can't decide between the Anytone 878 plus or the more expensive Yaesu FT3DE. I like the idea of bluetooth handset/headset so that the radio can stay in the bag (out of the rain). Have you tried either of these radios with a bluetooth fist mic or headset)? The Anytone is DMR, which would be more useful to me at home as there are a lot of Phoenix repeaters around here........everything else is a digital blackspot for me, no Brandmeister, no Fusion, nothing else! The Yaesu has better APRS functions which would be useful for SOTA (apparently the Anytone is tracking only & doesn't allow APRS messaging, which means that you cannot spot yourself on the SOTA website via APRS messaging........pretty useless). I think you originally said that you didn't like the Yaesu (in part due to it's poor audio) but changed your mind because the audio was better with the rubber covers removed. I think that the Yaesu would be more useful for SOTA due to the APRS & the C4FM (there seems to be a bit of a following of people using C4FM in simplex mode). Then again, the Anytone is significantly cheaper. I get the impression that the Yaesu is more robust and would handle the rain & adverse weather better but without physically getting my hands on either of the two radios, I can't be sure of that. What do you think?

I’m assuming it just scans what’s in your code plug?
@digitalanaloguehamradio2 жыл бұрын
No it discovers new stuff. This video is about VFo where you can search up and down the frequencies for new stuff. Of course you can scan the channels you have in already but that is different.

I am just looking into that now for you

Along press of the star button locks the keypad. To unlock press menu and then star quickly. I don’t believe there is any other use for the star button apart from DTMF which happens when you are transmitting. You press transmit and then star 73 to disconnect from all star for example. Another use is in digital monitor feature. Send me an email if you are completely stuck I am good on QRZ 2E0UKH

The radio sucks. It hangs. After turning it off, it still shows that it is on. I have to version with bluetooth and without and the same. the software is underdeveloped !! 👇😡
@digitalanaloguehamradio2 жыл бұрын
I understand what you’re saying. There are lots of things that can make it hang. If you’re using a Codeplug from someone else but it has something not compatible. Or you are using the wrong software for the firmware. Or most importantly and this is the one everyone forgets. Initialise the firmware on the radio directly. Then load Your Codeplug back in. Unfortunately some radios may have a fault and that might be yours. But a lot of faults can be fixed by programming the radio in the correct way.

It looks extremely slow… 😕

Yes you are right. But all the activity is only in one small area. And it’s better than buying a £500 scanner. And the point is it does this and you probably already own one.
