Great follow up to the inside skeleton scale. Now I'm trying adding the LH pinky on the 4th string, so doubling the bass note. Good stuff! Also, greatly appreciate you naming the chords, really nice to learn how extended chords come into play in DADGAD.

Great stuff Aodán - Enjoying the videos. When I started dadgad a few years back it was your old dadgad videos I used for getting some chords. Spent a fair while pausing to try figure out the shapes!! 😅 This is a great platform you’ve got going. Best of luck with it. 👍🏻

Hi Aodan, this is not Dorian but the classic minor scale right ? (Unlike spancil hill), and the G chord is minor... Which scales are you using in irish music ?

Hi Dominique. Yes you're right. These are the chords to the D minor natural scale, (with a G minor chord). As you say the G major chord is used in the song Spancil Hill as that is in the D Dorian mode. In Irish music it depends on what tune your backing. I think the best three ways of getting comfortable with figuring out what key/mode a tune is in would be to either learn the melodies of each tune you're backing, listen and develop ear training to recognise what the key is so that over time it becomes second nature, or just ask the melody players before each set.
