SYNTH ANATOMY

Күн бұрын

Back from the Winter holidays with a new Synthesizer, at least for me. Aodyo kindly sent over the Anyma Phi physical modeling Synthesizer.
As you may remember I supported/pre-ordered the Anyma Omega, the multi-timbral polyphonic brother on Kickstarter in 2022.
In this video, I unbox the Aodyo Anyma Phi and give you a big sound demo with a wide range of sounds.

This sounds very good and the price is very reasonable. I almost bought the black version but the fact it's monophonic has prevented the purchase.

to be precise, it's paraphonic :) So you could play poly-like patches. Anyma Omega will be polyphonic and multi-timbral :)

Love the concept. If you use it not to make realistic sounds but weird ones, it becomes a greate noise making machine for ambiences. Cant wait for the Omega

When I was looking for a granular synth, got this instead. I like the small form factor to bring for live sets. Most importantly, very unique sounds and patching possibilities

Pleased to see some Anyma related content. Wouldn't mind a follow up video once you've become more familiar with it. 🤠

Have you ever tried Ableton Live's Collision (which is just a port of a VST)? If so, how do they compare? I love Collision and would love to have it in a hardware box.

I am looking forward to my omega too :-) I'm curious how the polyphonic synth will sound. Most physical modeling Synths were mono Synths - except the big yamaha one 😊

Although personally I prefer analog synthesis, these digital hardware synths are interesting as complementary / alternatives. It's cool to have many options for sonic exploration. There are similar VSTs of course, but hardware devices are practically more direct and immediate in use. I like it, not for its aesthetics, but for its capabilities.

it's a mixture: some of the Braids algorithms, the granular FX is based on Clouds, some Rings stuff but also many newly developed physical modeling algorithms and more.

yeah, it has a built-in piezo mic that excite the different resonator-based engines :)

Nice video thanks. Since AAS first released their plug ins.. 20y ago ? it seems this technology is never bringing anything new. Strings, plucks, bells.. they all sound the exact same. Flutes and bows are as annoying as a child waking you up sunday with his toy instrument . Ai will end this quest in a blink.

But VSTs aren't made for all musicians. VSTs are fun, at least for me too. I know many people personally who don't want to use VSTs at all. They only use hardware because they sit at the computer all day and don't want to work with a mouse and a MIDI controller. It's understandable. You should use these tools that inspire you. A Synthesizer like this is a great option for them to get physical modeling synthesis. Anyma Phi has 52 oscillator algorithms (physical modeling, VA and FM bits...) that should give them enough sound design freedom :). So while VSTs can be as good as it gets, hardware synths always win with these group of users. AI will make a lot of things possible, we'll see when

I have a lot of analog synthesizers and I have a lot of FM synthesizers. And yet DHL is delivering this thing to me today. Physical modeling has a different character that the others can't offer. I'm going to control it with the pads on my Polyend Medusa. These pads are pressure sensitive in x, y and z dimensions. Mapping them to the physical properties of the models results in very nuanced and expressive sounds.

It has some great sounds, there wouldn’t be anything wrong with running through a Fable or Microcosm! I have no idea what a VST sound is? Sounds like an anything but Analog sucks remark to me. But what do I know,
