Hey Zak! Great video! Just wanted to tell you that you can override the new "easy military selection" by holding hotkeys (I think it's CTRL for only selecting military and ALT for only selection villagers).

Nice one! Can't wait for the next video! One unmentioned new feature I absolutely love is the intelligent trebuchet behaviour. When ordering to attack a building that's out of the trebs range, it automatically packs, moves, builds up and attacks the new target.

I would like to add that the gamelobby will now have the option to be automaticly being matched up against someone around your elo score. I don't think I will be using that option, since I believe some game settings might be random then, where as I like to play my arabia maps most of the time.

Usually not applicable for any kind of multiplayer games, but since many of AoE2 player started to play the game as kids, cheat codes for single player games are widely know. This one makes many things go instantly, so units and buildings are build instantly, reseaches are completed instantly and resource gathering is instantly done aswell. There was a bug tho, where this did not work on farming, which is fixed now.

About 'easy drag military': if you have it turned off you can still sort military from villagers by holding 'ctrl' while you drag the box. An absolutely awsome feature once you get used to it. When holding 'alt' (the move to point modifier) units will also garrison if you right-click a building.

You can easily select military AND villagers by holding shift key. Or holding Alt key for only selecting villagers without military.

Yeah, I'm a AoE3 player who never really played AoE2. AoE2 DE on the other hand..........................looks better than vanilla AoE3! Can't wait till AoE3 DE comes out in 2020. Fingures crossed it gets the same treatment as AoE2 DE.

Challenge idea: 1v1 when both players have one or more AI on their team, and the players are only allowed to command the AI with the new AI Commands and move their Kings. Winner is the one who kills the other player's king.

Nice to see an upload from Zak! Great video to showcase the new features. One subtle but very useful addition I noticed you didn't mention was they now show how many villagers are collecting each resource when looking at your stockpile, that'll be useful for less experienced players and also for better players in those messy late game team games when you may not realise you've lost a chunk of farmers/lumberjacks to raids etc.

I’m a AOE3 veteran , played AOE2 before . I find this to be fascinating that they’re just now remastering AOE2... I would say why not the 3rd game? I miss this game immensely . Used to watch as my dad went against 7 bots while he was walled off in a corner of Black Forest . Was really cool to see all 7 armies marching toward his base with the countless trebuchets .

Not sure if anyone has commented on this but I've noticed that trebuchets (when unpacked & out of range of intended target) pack themselves up automatically and move close enough to be able to hit the intended target! It is such a useful feature!

One grudge I have, is you can't select a building during construction to queue units or research immediately. You have to select the building again upon completition. Works especially against you on Nomad, when you construct your first Town Center.

About villagers not leaving resources to do the shift command, tbh this is exactly how they should work doing a command while holding shift means you're adding a task for the unit to do after finishing its current one, and collecting resource is a task, so yeah it makes absolute sense it works that way i played some other RTS and they all work like this

I know a lot of Age of Empires veterans, who never played any other RTS games, finds the shift queue system sometimes unintuitive. But the rules are simple: "While holding shift; when you are done doing this, then do this." As for 4:13 you mention you don't like your villager keeps mining the gold, when queuing up houses. But the rules are followed when you apply "do this, then do this" concept. He's already told to mine this gold, when isn't complete until the gold node is empty. To remedy this, tell a villager to stop, using the stop hotkey, then queue up houses.

5:05 Actually that feature isn't "new"---it's been in the UserPatch for a really long time (I think since even before HD came out, but I would need to double check the patch notes to be sure). The only thing is that Voobly never created a switch for people to turn it on. But if you run the UserPatch installer, there is an option for "Force new Gameplay Features" that, when selected, enables Sift+Delete for deleting all selected units at once. I've been using it for campaigns and Direct IP games for years 11.

6:23 You can use shift and pull a frame to select ALL units in the selected area. If you use ALT plus frame you only select villagers and no military units. If known it's useful!

Yes, it's improved big time! That said: there's still some issues when moving single units out of, or around, groups; basically they're not able to "push" friendly units out of the way and must therefore take the long way around (or be stuck if they are completely surrounded). Adding a free flow system where they could push friendly units would be nice, but you could also argue it would completely change the feel of the game because at that point units would basically behave like SC2 zerglings.

Will all the old cheats still work? I love the special units that they use to hide in the cheats. And the fact that the wacky cheats are pretty much available so openly and apparently integrated into the game data makes you appreciate the dankness of the game. It's like purely having fun is part and parcel of the game.

Looks great in terms of graphics, especially the William Wallace campaign. I just hope they paid as much attention to the AI (seems to be the case, the option to tell it to build a wall at specific location really got me) because there have been many issues with it, most notably overcrowding. Looking forward to that stuff once I got a new PC. For me, this beats Diablo IV by a landslide.

Zero E, PLEASE bring this to the devs! My best suggestion for making AoE2 newbie friendly is to have a back to work hotkey, just like the TC does, but for villagers that have just moved or been raided. If you select the vills and press the hotkey, the vills will return to the last resource they worked at. The hardest thing for a new player is to handle a quick and devastating raid, and get the eco up and running again. For pro players this is also a boring part of the game, and would improve streams by minimizing the eco macro somewhat. I don’t think it would have a huge impact on balance for the pros who know how to macro fast already, they might save a sec (which the devs want), but for noobs it would totally renew the game. Thank you if you bring this forward!! /Old AoE fan
