I love the Shimazu! They truly a force to be reckoned with.

The Shimazu were overrated. They did nearly nothing to contribute in the actual battle.

@@audeobellicus Sorry, what I said earlier was a bit harsh. To their defense, they did their share of fighting by the end of the day, but they may have been able to change the course of the battle if they acted in concert with their allies earlier.

I have been to Sekigahara. Japan’s Gettysburg.....beautiful place for such blood letting. The old villages is pretty much as it was in Ieyasu’s time. Amazing what transpired there yet most Japanese have never been. Pretty much like the situation with Gettysburg. I highly recommend you read up and study the battle before visiting. The hokey tourist trap park is really overdone and a bit gaudy. Still. That area of Japan is absolutely beautiful and the history enriches it so much more.

I too have been to Sekigahara, It is a short train ride from Hikone and its castle. The land at Hikone was gifted to Ii Naomasa for his service at Sekigahara and his family rebuilt the castle that stands there today.
These historical dramas are so well done. Hollywood was never as good.

Yeah even Hollywood classics can't make any great samurai movies but yet this movie looks too real and seems like your right there filming it actually and taking part of the battlefield.

The Western Army was believed to be 85,000 to 100,000 thousand strong. They had allies from Kyushu to Northern Japan in Aizu where the Uesugi ruled from. The problem was that Ishida Mitsunari could be kind of douche to some of his allies for example the Shimazu clan and Kobayakawa Hideaki. When the Shimazu suggested to stage a night attack on the exhausted Tokugawa forces Ishida basically said that it was cowardly. This led to Shimazu refusing to engage in combat and only remaining in ther camp for the majority of the battle. During the Korean Campaign Kobayakawa was one of the many generals that fought in the war. Ishida claimed that Hideaki fought poorly and demanded that a manority of his lands were taken and that he be executed. Tokugawa spoke up for Hideaki and convinced Toyotomi to spare Hideaki bith his life and his lands. Lastly there is the Mori clan. Mori Terumoto, leader of the Mori and one the five regents, was the official leader of the Western Army. The problem was that he wasnt a very capable warrior and commander and he was afraid of what would happen to his clan if the West lost. So he arranged for Kikkawa to keep the Mori out of the fighting in order to make sure his clan survived. Had the Mori and Kobayakawa cooperated with Ishida, Tokugawa would've lost the war.

I wished the Western Army won the war. As for Shibata I don't think he would side with the west. He was always against Toyotomi Hideyoshi and especially during the matter of the Oda succession. Shibata supported Oda third son Nobutaka while Hideyoshi sided with Oda's grandson from his first son the boy was named Hidenobu. Honestly I think Shibata wouldve sided with the East out of some kind of personal grudge. As for Maeda Toshiie, Toyotomi made Maeda the guardian if his young son Hideyori. I think if he lived a little big longer he would be the one commanding the West. As Niwa Nagahide, after Oda's murder he quickly supported Toyotomi during the Battle of Yamazaki and the Oda succession. He was greatly reward for his support. I can't really tell what side he would fight for. I think it woukd depend on what he personally thought of Ishida and Tokugawa's personalities.

SilentAssassin927 Ieyasu decided to take over when Toshiie died, if Toshiie would have survived until Hideyori would come of age, Mitsunari and Ieyasu would never have had clashed at Sekigahara, and the Tokugawa would have remained vassals to the Toyotomi.
@MohammedHassan-mp9dv9 жыл бұрын
Mohammed Hassan Toshiie had more influence over the Toyotomi vassals, so when he died Ieyasu became the most influentiel regent, which he made use of, by eliminating Mitsunari, which would weaken the Toyotomi´s power, and finally destroyed them in 1615.
I think it was meant to show that the man went insane due to war shock/fear. Incidentally, the Japanese of that period believed that an insane person is somewhat possessed by demons and are thus not answerable for their actions. Insane persons would often get away with things that would normally result into punishment. Maybe the guy in the scene was pretending to be mad so he won't get a spear in the back?

The bloody battlefield of Sekigahara was actually more cost of lives in few hours than the bloody battlefield of Gettysburg battlefield or maybe the invasion of Normandy in June 1944. They actually use swords ⚔️ and primitive weapons at that time than the modern day weapons. Tokugawa Ieyasu actually won that battle but yet at the high cost of lives. Tokugawa Ieyasu became a great Shogun in 1603. 🇯🇵🤕⚔️🪖
