A few things with this that I love: 1. All the stuff happening in the background; you can see riders that got knocked off their mounts fighting each other on foot, other fights going on (when Aragorn picks up a spear to save Gimli you see a man on a horse get tackled by a Warg and its rider and Warg, orc, and horse all go over the cliff), plus stuff in the aftermath (you can see wounded Men crawling, orcs finished off by riders, one wounded guy getting a drink from another Rohirrim) 2. Legolas's facial dialogue when Theoden says to leave the dead. Without saying a word Orlando Bloom really conveys that Legolas feels betrayed by Theoden that they won't search for Aragorn and that he REALLY wants to search for him himself. And Theoden's pause shows he understands that but that HIS people come first.

I wouldn't go that far. It's hard as hell to capture the fantasy genre well in cinema, and PJ obviously did a good job. But it can be a little hokey at times, or fall flat. This scene in particular was unnecessary and inconsequential, for example. We know Aragorn lives to tell the tale, so why put the audience in suspense of his death? Even people who are unfamiliar with the books would have seen the trailer and wondered why Aragorn was to die before the scenes of him fighting in the rain (Helm's Deep). I'd go on but I'll surely get cooked by the fans if I do lol.

Nice little touch that it's always Legolas that doesn't handle death well, he'd have a child's understanding of it as he's never had to worry about it or deal with it being close to him until now. For him "death" is a temporary and physical thing only, he knows where his spirit will go and that his body will reform sooner or later (since he's a great and honorable hero it'd be sooner). But now that he cares about humans, hobbits and a dwarf, he has to deal with real death, permanent and unknowable and he has no practice with it.
@Mikrobizeps9 күн бұрын
Yeah. Legolas looks confused after Gandalfs death in Moria. Like he is struggeling to process it. The ending of a life must be so uncomprehensible for an immortal being. When he watches Boromir dying, there is this blunt fascination but also pity in his eyes. Love this details in the movies. And good acting by Orlando by the way...
@ereynolds724 күн бұрын
I will say, Orlando doesn’t get to do too much compared to some of the others, but he absolutely nailed his expressions. So many of his best moments are just pure facial acting from him, he sells the fact he’s a timeless immortal struggling to deal with mortal vulnerabilities really well

I don't really get why they made her into such a generic character. What I love about LOTR is the extras don't feel like NPCs. You see the Riders of Rohan killing Wargs as well as the heroes. It makes it more realistic.

Impressive Gimli was able to remove two Wargs and an Orc off of him then claimed another Warg after Legolas/Aragorn took out the ones he was going to kill.

1:58 the scene and the music go so well. I really like the calvary riding the horse and the flag. In this film, I like Rohan more than Gondor because of the calvary
