That time when I watch robin backstory and see this once again, aokiji hugs robin, the same he did to saul. I thought that Aokiji is going into a father figure to robin but the story went different like it doesnt matter anymore.

I think that Aokiji was never a father to robin, but it was clear that he felt regret for what he did in Ohara. He valued his duty above his heart and seeing robin happy was like being forgiven for what he did, which in my opinion was the start of the events that led to punk hazard. His relation with robin was to state that Aokiji was not like the other marines. And that his faith in the navy was so weak that he refused to do his duty (arresting Robin)

@@kookykoruc1827 learning that garp was his mentor they really are alike.. they value their job greatly, garp didnt do anything for ace and kuzan to saul.. plus the today's chapter, when kuzan literally wants to be serious about training but because of the influence of garp that always eats rice cracker in the sidelines he takes a lazy justice.. those small resemblance makes onepiece really a well-thought out story
