Great Match, Anthony and Brian! In serious competition, I don't mind playing safety even when you have a run out option, especially if you are not confident of running out. Part of strategy and part of the game. Not much else to comment on, as you both played very well! Well done!

Thanks Ryu! Agreed on the safeties. The goal is to execute high percentage plays and increase our chances of winning. Great match 😁

Great match by both! I agree with Saik on defense. PDN posted a match from Masters where they warned the team about slow play because they were purposely missing shots without trying to breakout trouble balls or advancing play.

Yeah I think it's usually clear whether the intention is to advance the game, or stall.

Recently a guy got on hill against me with 8 on break and it annoyed me so much 😂. Luckily I was able to win the match. Minis seem a lot of fun.

They are a blast! The 8-ball break is a finicky rule. Glad you were able to win that one.

I think playing safety is a part of the game. Yes, you cant win on a defensive play, but it does have a certain psychological effect. Playing a lower skill level player in that manner may be a form of mockery if they havent played people that use defense before (think bar shooter) and you target thier weakness. Thanks for the video, your quality has definitely improved over the past few months. Also, TAP League has a tougher skill level rating. (I'm a League Operator in Alaska) A solid 5 ( uses 2-7) in TAP could be a lower 7 in APA, as an example.

Thanks for the compliment on the quality, really means a lot. Totally agree on how defensive play can be interpreted by players of different skills levels. Great point. Interesting comparison between TAP and APA. I don't know much about TAP, but I will say I have been considering branching out to other leagues. The limiting factor is free time, as always.

Game 5 you weren’t sharing. I saw a plan to develop shape for future shots.

Do you have to pay the quarters to the table? How do you decide who pays?
@OnTheSnap
@OnTheSnap 25 күн бұрын
We did have to pay tables for the minis, but not Masters play. As far as I can remember, we just took turns dropping them. You can either use a token, or an app on your phone called PayRange.

i think if defense is higher percentage play then i wouldn't mind the opponent making those kinds of shots over and over. I'd like to see attempts at them improving their situation though not just making my life hard. they should be fixing their situation or trying to lock me up and get BIH

That's a good way to think about it. It's not just about making your opponent's life harder; it's about improving your chances of winning.

"Doing minis is the way to go." Absolutely. It's fantastic to spend money to get into a tournament where everyone else is under ranked and completely destroys you and knocks you out immediately. Great time. I'm sure it's great as a 7, but as a lower handicap, you have absolutely no chance if you're not a sandbagger.
@OnTheSnap
@OnTheSnap 25 күн бұрын
Ah man, I feel that. Vegas Skill Levels are real, and people definitely do sandbag to take advantage of the system. I think we've all been burned by that.

@@OnTheSnap Can't even get away from it locally. Had a terrible weekend at tricups where I let my team down in the finals. Then had to stick around and play regular league after. Other team put their 7 on me, a 4, in 9 ball. He proceeded to not bother with a single defense and let me win 16-4 to try and mess up my handicap, but he's friends with the league ops, so no questions will be asked.

@@ashtonarrows1974 That is so annoying. I hate when those politics come into play. Unfortunately, it's usually unavoidable when you're working in a handicap system. I believe situations like this are why some lower SL players will consider Masters or other formats (there are a good number of SL4s and SL5s in my division) or local weekly tournaments which have handicaps based on known ability, or Fargo.

@@OnTheSnap Masters looks so fun, but I'd get destroyed by anyone I played in it here, so no team is going to waste a spot on me. I'm not even a good actual non sandbagging 4. I just can't go down because I had one good weekend in 2013 in the finals to go to Vegas and got locked. Didn't even go for 9 ball, still can't go down in 9 ball either.
