@@williedaniels3882 They were far better. You only have to compare the Ventures playing Apache which fairs poorly compared to the original by the Shadows. After the UK success of Apache for the Shadow it was to be their launch single in the USA, but The Ventures managed to released a copy of it before the original Shadows recording was released there.

Brings back memories from 55+ years ago standing in Nicky D's garage with my brand new bright red Fender Mustang. I'd love to have that ax back again ... and those Marshall's. I used a puke beige Premier with an external reverb unit ... total cost about $50. Loved those days.
