All I can say is I don't know how they managed to stay so grounded and calm during this. I live in L.A. and have since I was 6. Not sure if I saw this at the time, but what an unorthodox press conference with everyone talking at once. They were magnificent. John was so funny! Thanks for posting.

Most Americans back then, were not aware of the Beatles history or experinces, especially in Hamberg. They were already experienced in how to deal with the press, and anyone of high status in Britain. Nobody was abused, but they didn't kiss ass either.

The exact date of this press conference is August 18th 1964, just before the day the beatles started their 1964 North America Tour in Daly City. The August 23rd conference was another one which was set in Cinnamon Cinder nightclub(they performed in Hollywood Bowl after this)

when The Beatles came to LA and were staying in Beverly hills, word got out that they had been spotted clubbing on the Sunset Strip. that was the beginning of the kids hanging out there.

Paul didn't die. Paul left the Beatles in 67 and became John Halliday. KZbin it. The "Paul" that stepped in with the egg-shaped head is Billy Shears. Read the book Memoirs of Billy Shears.

John only said '"We're just well groomed."', while Ringo said '"Like horses."'. There was also some insane questions the reporters ask Ringo such as: Why was he in the hospital for, was his voice (or throat) the same after he got his tonsils removed, does he keep his rings on at all times *(Sometimes reporters ask Ringo questions about his rings, and I wonder if he gets annoyed by that.)* . But the most insane question I hear the boys get is about their hair and is it short than The Rolling Stones' hair.
