UPITN 15 10 76 PRIME MINISTER IAN SMITH INTERVIEW

(15 Oct 1976) Rhodesia's Prime Minister, Ian Smith, has warned that the guerilla war in his country will not stop at the drop of a hat, even if the up-coming Geneva conference produces a pre-majority rule interim government. In a televised interview with press from Britain and Australia, Smith said Rhodesia could expect a de-escalation and a gradual fading away of terrorism but he added that he was sufficiently realistic to know that it could not be stopped "at the drop of a hat ".

Were the Brits ruthless...yes, did they have a over-inflated sense of superiority...yes, did the citizens of a tiny island manage to out smart, dominate and control over a quarter of the world...yes, why is that? I don't agree with all the Brits did and some actions were shameful. However, i am looking at it from a 21st century mindset. "Everywhere you went you left devastation behind" look around the world, the systems the Brits invented are being used in all successful countries. From the military/police structure, banking, courts, industrial/manufacturing etc, if anything the systems have been improved upon in places. India still use the train lines built by the Brits during the Victorian era. Why am i wasting my time commenting on KZbin...i don't know!

@@ForestWalker22 I remember very well. The late 1960ies. Rhodesia was a jewel. Exporting food. The media hated him and he had to go. Their darling was Robert Mugabe. Ian Smith had to go. Today the country is starving. Not to speak about all the people killed and droven away. Also a story about racism.

My favorite is Aussie English. Of course, local dialects are existing in all countries. Germany, France, Spain. Beside the funny higlights of Indian English I like Russians speaking French.

I just can't understand why "the world" was so interested in what happens in Rhodesia! Rhodesia must do this, Rhodesia must give this or that portfolio to this or that group!!!
