(15 Oct 1976) Rhodesia's Prime Minister, Ian Smith, has warned that the guerilla war in his country will not stop at the drop of a hat, even if the up-coming Geneva conference produces a pre-majority rule interim government. In a televised interview with press from Britain and Australia, Smith said Rhodesia could expect a de-escalation and a gradual fading away of terrorism but he added that he was sufficiently realistic to know that it could not be stopped "at the drop of a hat ".
