Hi! I haven't encountered a landlord that asks for 6-12 months upfront so I am not sure how that can be handled but I have heard of cases like that for students or international students where landlord demands rent to be paid upfront for a year. I think because they are a student and don't have guaranteed income, the landlord worries they might be behind on rent!

The landlord coming to visit means he is illegally subletting his council owned property. Never rent from them because you have no rights when you rent from a subletting landlord and you and the landlord will be evicted if the council who is the actual property landlord find out, which it eventually will.

@@ZoeVong17 that's ok, make sure the landlord is the actual property owner or is an agent on behalf of the private property owner. If the property belongs to the local council aka local authority or government or is a housing association property, make sure you see that they have written permission from them to sublet the property to others. If they don't have this written permission, they are illegally subletting to you or others and it's only a matter of time before it's found out and when that happens, you as the subletter will have no rights and you and the tenant will be evicted.
