To clarify on my comment in the video, brokers in Chicago don't charge a broker fee for help finding an apartment because we are paid directly by the building/landlord as a referral fee when our client signs a lease with them. So, technically not free.. we're still getting paid, just not by the tenant. :) Thanks again for letting me be apart of this, Taylor - hopefully you choose Chicago as your next home!

Chicago peeps REPRESENT 🙌🏽🙌🏽 this was so fun to watch. These areas are considered VERY high end and most Chicagoans can’t afford them. I would love to see you venture out into some of the residential areas of the city particularly North. It was so crazy to see the rental prices for some areas and how much they have gone up over the last few years. I used to live in Uptown and we were paying $1300 for a TWO bedroom. Now that’s the cost for a one bedroom in the area. 😳

Our son (in his late 30's) moved to Chicago in 2015 and adores living there. For frame of reference and basis of comparison, he was born and raised in South Florida, went to college in NYC and continued living there for a few years afterwards, but then also lived in metro DC; Burlington, VT; and the Chapel Hill area of NC before moving to Chicago. We had never been to Chicago until he moved there, and now we can not get enough of that fabulous city. Yes, winters are super cold - but there is so much great stuff going on there that it more than makes up for the weather: fabulous theatre (at much cheaper prices than Broadway), a vibrant music scene, world-class museums, amazing food, legendary sports teams - not to mention Wrigley Field itself, dozens of neighborhoods each with their own unique personalities, and decent (better than most) public transit.

There are so many luxury apartment buildings here it’s crazy! I bought a condo but I cannot work from home and my family is here so it makes sense. I’d highly recommend finding a building close to an L stop if you don’t have a car. it makes exploring the city so much easier and less expensive than having to catch Ubers all the time. Buses are less reliable and are subject to the weather so the L is great!

I love reading all the positive comments about Chicago but I have a somewhat different perspective. I was born and raised in the Chicagoland area - all of the counties that "collar" Cook County that is Chicago. I lived in the northern area of Cook County - Hoffman Estates, Palatine, Inverness, etc. I moved to Chicago, specifically Horner Park, and lived there for three years. I absolutely LOVED it. I had a 1 bedroom apartment that was huge and was pretty low rent wise. Then, I moved several blocks west to the Irving Park neighborhood and lived there for three years. That's where I saw a difference. Some gang activity that grew in amount over those 3 years. Definitely stick with the downtown area of Chicago and please don't let this weird but tragic situation at the Bean scare you off. The winters can be hard. I have chronic pain, fibromyalgia and some other things that make winter very hard for me. But if you have all those great amenities then you wouldn't have to leave often, during the winter, unless you want to. Please take my review with a grain of salt. Wherever you land will be the right place for you.💜💜💜

Lovely to see how the other half can live:) living in the city 15 yrs and there are millions of awesome places that don’t cost that. You are paying for the posh and the amenities so, for anyone else looking…..you can find for less and the neighborhoods are awesome

It makes me so happy you’re loving Chicago Taylor! You should explore some walk ups/brownstones in the Lincoln Park/Lakeview area. Lots of charm!

Yes! More apartment hunting vids! Makes sense to have all the amenities because of their winters. Gotta have something to do when it's crummy outside! Looks like a neat place but I'm from Southern California and I'm light weight when it comes to the coldness!

Not me, a Midwest girl who lives in a small town in IN, thinking “oh those prices aren’t so bad” 🥴 Seriously though, Chicago is amazing. The people are so kind, the hustle and bustle is great but easy to get away from, it’s CLEAN, it has so many amazing opportunities for all different types of people. I really hope you choose Chicago! Winters can be cold, but you were in NY in winter and enjoyed it!

The type of apartment shown at the last location is a Convertible. Sometimes it’s referred to as a Junior 1 bedroom. Usually the lack of a closet in the sleeping area and/or possibly a door distinguish it from a 1 bedroom. As you discovered sometimes the closets off a hallway in a convertible can be much better than 1 bedroom closets. Thanks for sharing the apartment tour!

Welcome to the city! We just bought our first condo here and I would have to disagree with you about purchasing vs renting here. The neighborhoods make all the difference. You basically just stayed in the "downtown" area, but you can get some great places outside of those areas, not a lot of people can purchase in those areas you looked at! In the neighborhood we were looking at, mortgage payments vs rental payments were becoming equal amounts of money, so it made sense for us to find a long-term condo!

This video made my heart smile to see my beautiful city being showcased for the world to see. BTW these new buildings are fun/modern but there's nothing like the older buildings that hold the history, the architecture charm and authentic beauty.. Chicago Chicago my kind of town!!!! .... I Love you Chicago

I’ve been wanting to mention this but was holding back. One thing that isn’t being mentioned when showing these various cities is safety/crime. I would see people comment on your Seattle videos how amazing it looks and that they want to visit or move to Seattle. I used to love Seattle but I no longer feel safe there. What people don’t see in KZbin videos (from everyone, not just yours) is the huge homeless/crime problem that exists in Seattle right now. I wish it wasn’t that way, but it is. And safety is a real concern there right now. It’s so bad that Amazon and other companies are relocating their workers or allowing them to back to telework because it’s not safe downtown. Even the King county sheriff allowed it’s office workers to go back to telework because of all the crime downtown and at the courthouse. Crime in Chicago is not new but seems to be out of control lately. There were 33 shootings this last weekend, including 5 fatalities. There is now a curfew at Millennium Park/ The Bean because of this. Minors are only allowed in after 6pm if accompanied an adult. I’m not saying to focus on the negative of an area but people need to know what the situation really is in an area. If people only show the nice view and luxury apartments it looks like a beautiful city to live in. For Seattle a lot of Influensters only show Mt Rainier, the waterfront, and Pikes Place market with the homeless camps and police cropped out. I’m not trying to single you out, I love you and love your channel. I would just hate for people to move to Seattle or Chicago etc and be very disappointed. I just hope people do their own research.

I have been so surprised as a single woman that safety and crime are never mentioned in these videos she is doing. I think some people are afraid to be accused of not being sensitive to the issues of homelessness but the fact of the matter is that it goes hand in hand with crime.

Its so refreshing to see a comment from someone that lives in reality and not going along with the romanticizing videos these youtubers make of these places. I live in NYC and its exactly the same out here. I’m blessed not to live in one of the worst neighborhoods but don’t feel safe traveling throughout the city at any given time day or night 😢

Crime was far worse in the 70s and 80s if you look at the trend crime is and has been trending down, now media is just running wild with a narrative like they always do.

Taylor: there's a whole foods across the street Me while she's showing the unit: HOLD UP THERES A MARIANO'S NOW THATS A GOOD UNIT #chicagoanthings I'd really love if you did an apartment hunt part 2 but go to stuff that's further outside of the loop. I'm soooo curious as to what you would think of the vibe in like Boystown or Lincoln Park or something haha. It's definitely more genuinely Chicago versus the loop is very business-y and folks in their 20s, 30s, and 40s don't tend to hangout out there if they live in Chicago unless it's the West loop and even then it's usually to go out like maybe once a month. (Side note: west loop has AMAZING restaurants)
@jiffybishop31912 жыл бұрын
I second this! I live in West Loop (actually very close to the building she showed) and used to live in Lincoln Square. love both "true" Chicago neighborhoods and the downtown ones. but also people don't realize you can live in those expensive neighborhoods and can still afford them as long as you avoid the luxury buildings owned by big property companies. I currently live in a 2 bed loft in West Loop and split $2300 with my boyfriend, and I rent from an individual landlord instead of a corp. makes a huge difference
