We put together this video to give people an idea of the type of places there are to rent here in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia if you are planning to relocate here, and also advice on how to go about buying a car.
When we arrived in Malaysia we were lucky enough to be recommended some great companies to help make the process of finding an apartment and buying a car so much easier, than it could have been. We have no affiliation to these companies - they were just great so we are happy to recommend them!
Before moving to Malaysia we discovered iproperty.com which allowed us to starting searching for areas and condos we were interested in, it also helped to get an idea of the cost of apartments/houses here. I would definitely recommend doing your research before your move as this saved us so much time in apartment hunting as we pretty much had it narrowed down before we moved.
Finding an apartment, getting an idea of properties available to rent or buy in Malaysia (they also have an app!):
www.iproperty....
DSP Relocations Asia - Malaysia (ask for Lisa - she is amazing & so helpful!)
www.dsprelocat...
Expat Car Guys - Speak to Max, he will help you out. Also join their facebook group as they list all of their current available cars on that group (but sometimes best to just head down there and see what they have!):

Ian & Jo, great video and insightful!...hope you both are settling in well. Me and my wife are just about to relocate to KL in a month’s time. Your place is amazing. Which part of KL is that? How far is the commute to KLCC? Hope to keep in touch and maybe go for a lunch some day when we settle there.. Thanks and stay safe.

Thank you for the positive feedback and we are glad you found our video useful! Our condo is in an area called Bukit Jalil (south of the city) and definitely offered the best from all that we looked at when we arrived. KLCC is about 12km from us which is about 20mins by car as we are near to the E20 MEX Expressway. To be honest we can get to most places in 15/20mins. You are going to love it here and we hope everything goes well with your relocation. We would be more than happy to meet for some lunch when you are more settled and let us know if we can help with anything :) Safe travels and keep safe!

Berautiful home! US700 for all that??!! you cudnt even get a small studio apartment in Miami for that price, or even a bedroom for that matter. Bit out of the city it seems but you get a pretty nice view. What I am jealous about is the plethora of different cuisines and KL being in the heart of Asia. Enjoy your beautiful space!

Thank you. Yeah you really do get a lot for your money in KL. In the U.K. you could rent a house for around this price, but no way would you get a pool, gyms, nursery and gardens that’s for sure. A garage for your car if you were lucky. Oh and definitely not the weather. Miami, nice 👍. Food here is incredible, so many different cultures and lots of flavours. It’s also very reasonably priced. Thanks for watching, another video coming soon.

@ianjo3371

Thank you for watching. The internet in Malaysia is reasonable. We use Time for our internet, unfortunately not a lot of properties are setup to handle the speeds. You end up paying more a month and getting less. On a positive note having lived in Shanghai for 3 years. It’s way faster in Malaysia 👍.

Welcome to Malaysia! :) I hope you're still enjoying it, even though it's still under extended lockdown. You were kind of wondering do you as tenants need to pay for the amenities, well, no. The monthly maintenance fee as we called it here, is pay by the house/condo owner (s) I am not sure which part of KL you're in. Is it Ampang area? Just curious. Anyway, I lived in Petaling Jaya, aka PJ. We are in a approx. 2400 s/f apartment/condo. We're paying a little under RM3,000.00 monthly. (Around USD$ 700.00/-) It's a duplex, 3 1/2 rooms, 3 baths. The master bath has a bath-tub, and all the water heaters & full air-conditions. There are 2 main gyms, 1 yoga/dance studio, 3 pools, 3 jacuzzi, 2 spas, 2 tennis courts, squash courts, gardens, playground, a mini market, a inhouse café, and what we love is our balcony, it's approx. 400 s/f! Even though we don't have KL City center view, but we enjoy the sounds of birds, the green, and some form of quietness. But that's my personal preferences, I've lived in downtown KL before, but it didn't resonate with me. So glad you found a property agent (company) that takes care of your need, awesome. & a great car people! Congrats! MyVi is probably one of the best/reliable local cars. Kudos! Many apartments in KL/PJ do have a dish washer, if not, usually one can request depends on the owner, and rental. I as a Malaysian, I don't need one, so I didn't ask for one. We do have a frond loaded washing machine, and a dryer, since we're in the tropical weather, we hardly use that. This apartment of ours also comes with a lot of built-ins, semi - furnished as we preferred. And a full kitchen with fridge, more build-ins, an oven, a cook top, and hood. I reckon your video will be extremely helpful to those who are thinking of moving here. As we say here "Selamat datang ke Malaysia/KL!" :- ) Cheers x

Hi Shaun. Myself and Jo have talked about going to see Stonehenge one day. There are lots of positives, I would say, warm all year round, cost of living, food, more for your money in terms of property, great hub for travelling, friendly people. To be honest I’m struggling to think of any negatives as there aren’t many things that we don’t like here. If you compare with home, you will find that some things do not always happen as quickly as you want them to which can be frustrating, particularly things like maintenance work or needing things installed etc.

You are using very annoying background music, being in Malaysia you could use one of the beautiful Malaysian music.

Everyone has their own taste in music, we are never going to be able to please everyone. Plus we were struggling to find copyright free music at the time as this is one of our earlier videos.

Thank you for sharing your positivity and happy new year! Considering this was only our 3rd ever video we were pleased with it tbh as we had only our phone to use at the time and were just starting out. At least the other thousands who have watched this don’t appear to have felt the same or felt the need share any negativity.
